Forums - Sony Discussion - How Is Vita Doing Now? (KillZone Has Yet To Be Released)

How Are These Vita Sales After A Price Drop With No New Software Doing?

Sales Are Good,But Should Be Higher 22 14.86%

They Are Where I Expect Them 6 4.05%

Need To Improve Alot More 52 35.14%

Way Off Of What It Needs To Be 39 26.35%

Much Better Than I Expected 5 3.38%

Too Early To Say As Of Now 24 16.22%

Total:148

Is there anyone here who owns a Vita and doesn't like it? Just because it isn't selling that well doesn't mean it is a terrible system. Also, didn't the PSP take awhile to become a powerhouse if I am remembering right?

Nobody said it was a terrible system.

As for the PSP, it did best in 2005, 2007, and 2008 in the United States, 2006 to 2008 in Europe, and 2007, 2008, and 2010 in Japan, with Global totals being best in 2007 and 2008.

In short, by this point in the PSP's life compared to the Vita's life, it was performing near or at peak in the West. Only in Japan did the PSP take a real while to gain momentum, becaause that's how long it took for Monster Hunter to become a huge franchise there.

Critically speaking, we can use MetaCritic as a guide, at least for the West. The following are the number of games with a score of at least 75

*2005 - 23

*2006 - 44

*2007 - 26

*2008 - 16

*2009 - 28

*2010 - 22

*2011 - 17

Even with the rise of digital-only games later on (including OMG-Z, 2011's top PSP game), the PSP's support obviously hit its high point in its second full year, 2006. The Vita's equivalent year is 2013, aka now. In other words, if history repeats itself, this is as good as the Vita's gonna get in terms of quality releases per year.

Love and tolerate.

I remember the PSP doom, and I would say what got it out of that rut was GTA PSP, open the checkbook Sony.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

The PSP started like a train.  Your memory is playing tricks on you.

Vita improving in the west. I guess Japan Drop is for MH and Pokemon.

The fact that its back down as low as 8k in Japan tells you how this ends.

Too many games coming out for it in japan for to jump to such conclusions. Also once monster hunter and pokemon are out the way the system will again have time to grow.

The sales really arent impressive. The memory cards are still an issue, for the average person the Vita is still 250 dollars, because who actually wants a 4G-8GB memory card.

But Im still hopeful, not for this holida but for 2014 when the 3DS games may dry up a bit and the PSVita games increase, mainly imports which sony have promised and Borderlands, Minecraft and PS3 streaming.

It might not even be till 2015 where the systems sales peak. Thats the great about having a future proof device.

The fact that I am seeing very little from Sony on the 1st party front tells me enough.

At least i'm getting JRPGs though.
