If Sony reveals that PS4 reserves only 1 GB for the OS (which is plenty enough), then it will truly have the best hardware for games and best graphics overall.

Because I don't have much faith in anyone pushing Wii U to its limits in the long run. Certainly not third-parties. And Nintendo is probably better served looking at what options Wii U affords them in terms of art design more so than anything else.

In hindsight, I think Nintendo should've just gone in an entirely different direction with Wii U.

Go for a more off-the-shelf but still affordable 800 GFLOP GPU from AMD, shrink it and make it as power efficient as possible. 4GB of cheap DDR3 RAM, quad-core CPU. Make sure the GPU allows for easy PC ports.

Do not design the console for Japanese tastes. The console industry is done there. System should be about the size of an American NES. Bump the power consumption to 50-60 watts, not a big deal.

Do not make the Wii U tablet the main controller. It simply doesn't add enough to most games to justify adding $100 to the cost of the console. Revise the Wiimote + include a Pro Controller. Keep the tablet pad idea, just bundle it with Nintendo Land, like the Balance Board + Wii Fit, but push third parties to support the off-TV play feature.

I think that type of system coupled with a smarter 1st year, would have far better third party support and could be sold for $299.99 easily today, which would give it a significant price advantage for those wanting to upgrade from the PS3/360.

The Wii U IMO was designed more by Nintendo as a last ditch effort to save console gaming in Japan by trying to mimic the use of a handheld (3DS/Vita) around the Japanese home, but it simply wasn't worth it going that route.

We may not be able to count on 3rd parties to push Wii U, but Nintendo always push their consoles' hardware, and they do it with good art design.Doesn't have to be one or the other. I see no reason why Wii U would be any different.

As always? As I remember right, the difference between XBOX and Gamecube was irrelevant. Although you're right, that the graphical difference between Sony (PS2) and Nintendo (GC) was huge back then.

The PS4 uses around 3 GB for the OS :P

Hahaha I remember getting the gamecube at launch. I was so used to PS2 and all of a sudden "whoa these spheres are actually spheres! What magic is this?!"



more than a few devs/insiders strongly hinted the ram split in the ps4 is 6/2(OS).... anyways there was not a huge dif in the ps2/gc graphics..

as for the wiiu/xone,ya they may have similiar feature feature set/effects (feature set/effects is the new cool word/catch phrase in the game world this week,just replaced huma,wich replaced GDDR5,wich replaced move data engines ,wich replaced secret sauce) but the wiiu doing those same effect/features is gonna be massively watered down.. its like saying pam anderson and rosie odonnell have the same feature set/effects,well they both have a vagina,they also both have tits,everythings equal... then you take a step back and see that one is a hell of a lot prettier than the other,sure they have the same feature set, but one uses that feature set SO much better...


no way on this earth is anyone getting games that look like forza/ryse/dr3 out of the wiiu.... if you combined the complete dev teams of naughty dog/santa monica/ and media molecule and made them one large super dev team and built a engine from the ground up just for the U,you're still not getting the quality of those xone games i mentioned on the U(graphics wise). imo

the difference is closer in U/ps4One power wise than the wii to the ps360.. but its still a long way off, before it was like boston to L.a difference in miles apart,now its like chicage to L.a,closer,but still a ways off from catching up. nitendo will make solid titles as usual,but i wouldnt expect to be blown away graphics wise
