Forums - General Discussion - Would you support Marijuana if everything else became illegal?

Definitely, I don't smoke weed, or drink alchohol. I maybe should because I have to take xanax once or twice a week.

imo, I'd rather have weed legal, and alchohol illegal (I think neither should be illegal). I've had much worse experiences with drunks than people high on weed :P.

I however support companies not hiring you because someone smokes weed even if it becomes legal. And support them forcing you to take a drug test. The companies are paying money, they should be able to chose who they want to pay. This becomes an issue, when racism, or sexism becomes involved. However, I wouldn't put potheads on the same level.

Generally speaking, I'm against making unnecessary laws.

I dont see how anyone can say this. A company pays me for my time at work. They have no right to tell me what i do at home. Its not their place to know anyones personal business. If it has an impact on someones job so be it but this is rarely the case. Your beliefs that companies should higher who they want is exactly why we have laws preventing it. It shouldnt matter what I do, what I look like( to some extent) my religion, etc as long as I do the job I am being paid to do. Your way leads to gamers being fired because they play games on their free time. Your way leads to this post allowing me to fire you because I dont like it. I pay you so you are not entitled to your own opinion. I wont higher you now because you are a druggie, sure you can claim its prescription but its not up to you because its my money.

No because it's not about the substance but the right of an individual to decide what they consume.

but I smoke because smoking pot is a whole lot better than smoking cigarettes

Why?  They're both an open invitation to cancer, lung problems, and immune system disorders.

As for the question, I guess my answer is 'no'.  I don't know if marijuana should be illegal or not but I'm not a fan.  I got out of the drug culture a long time ago but I had a few friends who couldn't pull free and they were never the same.  It might not be quite fair to blame marijuana for all of that but it was the cataylst.  I don't think the world would be a better place if it were legal.

Still, as with alchohol, most of the problems are with abuse rather than normal usage.  Cigarettes are what I have the biggest problem with because of how addictive they are.

Complete BS. Its been openly stated and proven that Marijuana has not led to a single death throughout history Tobacco has been smoked for thousands of years. it wasnt until radioactive ferterlizer and chemicals like fermaldahyde were added to them that cancer started.. I've never even heard the immune system part in any of the things I have read about it. Cancer? Nope sorry Its actually used against cancer. Lung problems? You do know there are other ways to get it in your system other than smoking. It seems your beliefs are based off of assumptions or just made up information

Here is a little fact for you. Our own bodies produce some of the compounds found in marijuana. They call them Cannabinoids. a person suffering from seizures has less of a certain cannabinoid released by their brain, that is why smoking marijuana can relieve that problem for them. One guy was interviewed who cannot even function on his own or speak clearly, but after he smokes he is just as normal as anyone else.

There are so many health issues that marijuana easily fixes, that is why drug companies spent billions making a synthetic version.

Haha!  What on earth are you talking about?  Proven that marijuana has never caused a death in history?  Don't be silly.

Marijuana has carcinogens.  Everyone knows that.  Pretty much any kind of smoke you inhale has carcinogens.  That's as basic as you can get.  Everyone knows breathing in ANY kind of smoke is bad for the lungs.  I can't even believe you're questioning that.

"Since marijuana is illegal, it is hard to do the controlled studies that have been done with tobacco. Because of this, it helps to look at what we do know about marijuana:
Many of the carcinogens and co-carcinogens present in tobacco smoke are also present in smoke from marijuana.

Marijuana smoking does cause inflammation and cell damage, and it has been associated with pre-cancerous changes in lung tissue.

Marijuana has been shown to cause immune system dysfunction, possibly predisposing individuals to cancer.

Bottom line: Though marijuana most likely pales in cancer risk when compared to cigarette smoking, it's better to play it safe. There are reasons in addition to lung cancer risk (and the fact that it is illegal in most states) to avoid marijuana. Marijuana likely increases the risk of testicular cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, a type of brain tumor, and the risk of leukemia in the offspring of women who use it during pregnancy."  http://lungcancer.about.com/od/causesoflungcance1/f/marijuana.htm

i'm moving to a state that's legalized it. I would legalize mj, but i have no interest in criminalizing any substance. I quit cigarettes to... feels awesome don't it. I rarely drink cuz im not very social. I don't smoke weed or do any drugs at all. I just think no objects can be prohibited, only behaviors!

Buy synthetic urine if you want to be safe for sure. Usually military and probation drugs tests are the only tests that they check you out while you piss. So for most jobs you just go to the bathroom alone (usually at a designated testing center). The main thing you have to worry about synthetic urine is keeping it at a temp or 96-98 or so but they include warmers to wrap around the bottle after heating it up in microwave for a few secs.

As for the question in op... No I don't support only making weed legal. I support making all drugs legal. It is the only thing that would ruin the Mexican drug cartels. If all drugs were legal then they would have to find another illegal operation or legally manufacture the drugs.

Wow that really suck and really dumb.. i wouldnt be able to do it and have to find a new job. if someone was caught i can totally see why he would do it for liability reasons in the business you are in. If a part fails from defect, and the investigation has workers blazing, Lawsuit city. if he does a blanket test and fires everyone caught, it can protect him.

also, if you smoke every night to relax, the concentrations in your urine could be rather high and take a while to fully leave your system. Ive heard some reports say up to 28 days for heavy users. I dont know when your test is but I would say start drinking LOTS of water and grab some certo

and to answer the question, I wouldnt want to see alcohol prohibited again. Even tho i am a major marijuana user(although im lucky enough to be legal) i wouldnt want to make that trade. The dangers to society from banning booze is just to great. everything would go to hell

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

Sorry to hear about your company news.  That sucks and seems to me an invasion of privacy.

But to answer the question no I wouldn't.  While drinking is much worse for your body, and probably much worse than society that smoking marijuana, I think people should allowed to do with their body what they want.

Now there is a within reason.

I'm thinking cocaine should probably be legal too. But would probably disagree with Meth being legal.  It just eats up people lives, perhaps it's from the weird chemicals used to make it.

Where I have know people who just about everything else and live normal productive lives.  Or someone more productive than normal lives in the case of Cocaine and Marijuana specifically.

Studies, well at least one, has shown people who work on an assembly line are happier, more productive, and more accurate on marijuana.

By the way, I do not drink coffee and think many people use it to harm their health and lives.  I think coffee is a wildly abused drug.  Many people do so much it's basically like cocaine, but harder on your body.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Yeah sure. I mean, I don't do any of the three, but Marijuana seems safer then beer while tobacco is just an addictive placebo effect with no real benefit.

Now that said, still totally fine with drug testing. The problem with Marijuana is, unlike Beer there isn't a way to tell if it's actively in your system or not.

Therefore, if they want someone who isn't high on the job they pretty much have to exclude everyone who smokes it.

All drugs should be legal. They could have age restrictions, and of course people shouldn't be able to drive on drugs, but other than that they should all be legal.
