Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Death of Nintendo (contender for worst Nintendo is doomed article)

He was making a comparison of how death is Wii U like gaming journalism. But I have more hope in the console to pick up than he having little skill to write.

To bad their valid points will be overlooked by his low standards.

More the reason that it is "hip" to hate Nintendo. Gosh I hate video game journalism.

He's right.

Nintendo has always relied heavily on kids to play their systems and all their games (except maybe Metroid) are kid friendly. While they might loss the teen/young adult audience to Ms/Sony, parents have always felt safe letting their kids play Nintendo consoles. Those kids are tomorrows Nintendo die-hards.

But todays kids aren't playing Mario, they are playing Angry Birds. A hand me down smartphone/tablet is so much easier and cheaper for parents to do and they never have to worry about going to the store to shell out $60 for the latest game. The kids have endless games, mostly for free.

Nintendo has also abandoned their 'casual' market - the soccer moms, lapse gamers and mature audience that Wii/DS pulled in. They lost the 'core' ages ago.

Nintendo has awesome IPs but if no one wants to buy their hardware, it's not getting played.

I'm not supportive of Nintendo developing for mobile, but I think their back catalog ought to be on mobile (it is anyway, they just aren't making any money off it) so new players discover Mario, DK, Link, etc.

What Nintendo should have done was the exact opposite of WiiU. They need to make a device that allows you to play in fun, accessible ways that you can't possible do on PS4/XB1 or any mobile device. Just like DS and Wii did in their day. If it's fun, people will buy it. What WiiU is doing looks like a poor man's HD system or poor man's tablet. Except it costs too much. Still.

you know you're nuts when you agree with this article.

I'd also like to call bullshit on anyone claiming that "Kids today have no idea what a Nintendo is and only play tablet games."

Anyone claiming that can't possibly have kids or ever be around any at all. I have a seven year old and there's always been kids at his daycare with DS's and 3DS's - going back as early as when he was five. And you know that the ones without are all looking over their shoulders.

They know who Mario is VERY WELL. On top of that, in the last couple of years, they've all been obsessed with Skylanders. Disney Infinity is also gonna follow in it's footsteps as well. Go compare the sales of that game on WiiU vs HD consoles. Sales are about 1/2 to 1/3 when the number of consoles out there is roughly 1/23.

The point is, kids are still playing consoles.

Because I enjoy terrible Nintendo doomed articles.  Shows how shitty gaming journalism is and how terrible they are at actually writing.  I believe there are tons of grammatical errors in this article.  This appears to be more of a blog than journalism though.

haters gonna hate, worst article is by Colin from ign! That bastard is so biased, im glad he came out with it to show the world. Now he looks like an Ass!

Didn't you actually just misinterpret Colin making his prediction actually very realistic?

I'd say I'm not sure why most everybody here is furious with the ideas expressed in this article, but I know why. I love Nintendo - that doesn't mean I agree that they make awesome business decisions all of the time. The reason that people get so up-in-arms about the prospect of Nintendo failing is because they've invested themselves in the idea that Nintendo cannot fail. Many great companies fail. General Motors, for instance, made terrible products and eventually the Federal Government had to bail them out.

I don't want to see Nintendo fail. I also don't want them to have to develop for phones or tablets. I want them to succeed. Right now they are making countless awful decisions. Does that mean I don't love them? No. I have a Wii U. My family or I have had every Nintendo system since the N64 (had a Genesis before that). I can't imagine gaming without Nintendo. They are my favorite. I won't buy a Sony or Microsoft gaming system (PC with Windows OS excluded).

But I don't care which company it is - if they make bad decisions then not only will they go out of business, but they deserve utter failure and financial ruin. This is a life lesson - prosperity comes through hard work. Nintendo has been banking on the same strategy for a long time. In other words, they are being lazy. A lazy company, just as a lazy person, does not deserve success. They will come to failure. This is the good and just way of the world.

In other words, Nintendo needs to step up their game. They have completely lost my respect - even though I love and will continue to buy Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pikmin. I do not respect Nintendo because they are lazy. They are not taking any risks, which is unfortunate, because by not taking any risks they are ultimately making the gamble that what has worked in the past will work for them indefinitely. This is terrible thinking. The world evolves around them. "Weakness cannot persist in a power-evolving universe."

So will I continue to support Nintendo? No matter what. I will buy only their consoles, and for their consoles, likely only their games. But they are making terrible, wretched decisions and do not deserve success. Until they start making better decisions - and I have not seen them yet - I will not reverse this judgment. You may all scoff, but it is only because you fear losing your hobby, you fear losing your favorite company. Shame on you for projecting success on your favorite company for the sole reason that it is your favorite. You care less about Nintendo than I do. One who loves understands that failure can come, even to his beloved.

nooo, he is still one of the worst. My point stands, He thought Vita would take out 3ds and bashed it without giving it a chance. Read the article and you'll kno wat im talking about PS: I already admited i made 1 MISTAKE to everyone, pls dont hold it over my head. Thankz

To suggest writing off a console after 10 months is insane. I stopped reading there. The PS3 sold like crap early on too, and it could end up selling the most consoles in gen7. The gaming media has written off Nintendo already, even though they're dominating the handheld market and clearly won the 7th gen when factoring in both the DS and the Wii.

Human contact, the final frontier.

There is only one proper response.
