Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How Much Will The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Have In Sales Lifetime?

Japan loves handheld so hopefully a mil from then, maybe more?

Around the Network

I'm hopeful that this can be the best selling handheld Zelda game, buuuuut it IS old school, and we haven't quite seen how old school Zelda fares. Old school Mario is kicking ass and taking names, but will Link be able to do the same?

Nevertheless, I'll say 4.5-5m.... so lets settle on 4.75 ^^

Another interesting question is; will aLBW boost the sales of OoT?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

oh it is!!!! trust me

4.5-5m
i would say it ends up 5th on that list

I'm thinking, normally this game should end up at about 4m, so at GameBoy's Link's Awakening's range which is more or less the average for handheld Zelda games. Works perfectly with my 3DS lifetime software prediction too . It has some hype to it though, positive hype. People percieve this game as going back to some more traditional roots. Also, it's retro-feel has been recieved very well which should work in the game's favor so maybe it'll push it towards the 5m.

However, if this retro-feel turns into a 'New Super Mario Bros.' like scenario, all bets are off. Old gamers coming back, new gamers trying 'old' Zelda out, just like what happened with Mario. 'New Legend of Zelda' could be huge, maybe even up to 10m. Of course, I'd like that to happen, but I doubt it. The series is long overdue for a game that reaches the 10m milestone (without ports and remakes).

There's also a worse case scenario. Usually, the second Zelda game on a system performs considerably worse than it's immediate predecessor. Regardless of whether or not it's a handheld or home-console, this always happens. Since there's already Ocarina of Time on 3DS, A Link Between Worlds could be considered inferior. However, since Ocarina is a remake, which hasn't happened before, there's no way to know.

Personally I think the first scenario is the most likely, to put a number behind it:

4.51m

Nah I don't think so. Only if my 'New Legend of Zelda' scenario works out. Zelda is big in the west (the US particularly), not so much in the east, by far most of the series' sales come from the west. There's only four Zelda games that made it to the million in Japan; the first four home-console games. Not even Phantom Hourglass made it to the million, which was a huge game, on a platform which has a huge userbase. Of course, A Link Between Worlds looks way better than Phantom Hourglass did, but at least that game was perfectly tailored to a Japanese audience, compared to A Link Between Worlds. But like I said, none of this applies if it takes off as a 'New Legend of Zelda', then it'll blow past 1m in Japan easily .
