Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD ~ Wii U/GCN Comparison Video and More!

Gamecube looks better. And as far as I know there is newer footage (screenshots) that show somewhat corrected colors (blue is blue again and not turquoise) and alot less bloom (still to much of this eye cancer but better than in the video)

Again original = better

Played the original but I'm twitching to buy the remake. If only I didn't buy that damn Wii U last year and waited, lol.

Wooooooot???? After seeing the view distance in the HD remake and the beautiful lightning effects I can't look at the original anymore lol.

But different strokes for different folks I guess.

lol that was a comparison almost as dishonest as Capcom's for Okami HD, with the original version being unrealistically blurred. Shame on you Nintendo, I expect higher standards from you.

It looks real great though. Perhaps if I spent less time talking about games than actually playing them I could buy this with a Wii U.

Well were are the lighting effects you talk about? The only thing I see is cancerous  blooooooooooooooooooooom. Which is no lighting at all its just crap.

The draw distance comes from the new resolution  I can play the original with higher resolution on my computer so that does not count.

Btw the view/draw distance of the original running at same resolution is actually higher because the bloom  and the crappy contrast reduce detail.

A HD remaster/remake is supposed to look cleaner crisper and sharper than the original.

Original colors  great contrast (detail in clouds) super crisp!  VS  Greenish. Contrast to high fucked up detail. Bloom = not crisp

Seriously the colors are not that much of an issue because I can fix them with my TV settings but the contrast and bloom......

Even Nintendo understood to some extend and dialed back the bloom and corrected the colors at least to some extend.

Picture used in prior comparison (old built used in the video) VS newer built   better blue, little bit less bloom (still to much)

The newer built also has a slightly smaller hud. (source Nintendo Japan website)

P.S. funny fact! I just found out that there is something called Bloom-Syndrom which is indeed related to cancer! how fitting

It looks great and I like Wind Waker, but I can´t help but feel disappointed because I think Ocarina of Time was the Zelda game that would´ve truly benefited from the Wii U´s power.

I wish they had saved the OoT remake for the big screen, and not for a handheld.

Oh boy. I don't have a old school TV at home, Wind Waker on my TV always looks like sh*t. And as you can clearly see the buildings in the distance are clear and sharp and you can see Islands at the horizon compared to the GC version. And with the lightning I didn't mean bloom at all. The sections where it's dark and you see several light sources.  Why would I want to play through the old version on my HDTV? I love the new look. It has a more immersive atmosphere thanks to the sharpness. Alone that is worth a ton for me. I can enjoy sailing now. I hated it before cause everything was blurred in the distance. I just can't understand how anybody would choose the blurred version of the game nowadays.

Looks great. I had not done business with Gamestop for a long time till I preordered the Ganandorf version a few days ago.
