Subtitles+PSN release. Is it really that expensive?

Has to be a monetary issue, they are not just doing it to spite the west.
It's most likely that the demand is not high enough outside of Japan to make it worth localizing.
As some have stated already your best bet is just importing it.

It's all about crappy Sonic titles or Mario and Sonic at wherever they happen to go this year now.  Those games sell regardless if they're good or not.

Also how we're Yakuza 3&4&Dead Souls? Worth picking up?

But those games are already in english, so there's little to no resources needed for it.  And we're still not getting them!

Yakuza 3 and 4, yes.  Dead Souls?  It's kind of enjoyable for the first few hours because of how it plays nothing like your traditional third person shooter, but it gets old pretty fast.  Watch some Youtube videos of Dead Souls and see if it would interest you. It's not very expensive, $13 on Amazon, so might be something you'd want to pick up if you like the other Yakuza titles.

I'd recommend getting Yakuza 3 and 4 soon if you're at all interested.  Looks the price is going up.  Earlier this year they were around $15 at Amazon.  Looks like the price of Yakuza 4 is $40 at Amazon now and while $20 at Gamestop, can't be purchased new or used online.
