Good news actually, don't know why some people think this was a bad idea.

Anyway, now MS needs to bring this bad boy back.

Nokia was in a bad place when he took over anyway. Wasn't much that could have been done.

I agree Nokia was in a bad position, but Apple and Samsung eating Nokia marketshare weren't half as destructive as Elop's switch to windows mobile.

You really have no clue what you're talking about, stop copy pasting what other people are posting.

There are plenty of actually informed posts in that GAF thread which proves the opposite of what you're saying.

So are you gonna copy paste what those other people are posting to disprove me or are you gonna thread whine more? How ironic that you accuse me of copy pasting when you bring up other people's post that supposedly disprove me. Did Nokia sales not fall of a cliff after the transition to windows mobile? YES. Elop was shitting on his own products(Burning Platform memo) just before the transition. Was Nokia already hurting before Elops coup? YES, thanks to the explosion in  Apple and Samsung phone sales. What exactly is it that you dont understand?

You're in the gaf thread you can see for yourself, and I don't copy paste other peoples posts it's very uncool.

FYI Thread whining is a Neogaf rule not a VGChartz one, this is hilarious!

Nokia actually had profitability problems, but surely Windows Phone proved not to be the solution. About keeping its leadership in mappping and navigation, switching to WP wasn't by any means a necessary condition to achieve it.
Not wanting to directly develop Symbian anymore, but wanting to keep its user base, making it become a customised environment on a barebone Android or even more basic Linux system could have been a far better solution, avoiding WP bloating and hit on battery life that surely made existing user base unhappy, while Android could have provided all the developments and new features Nokia wasn't able or willing to add directly.

Ok... here's the thing... and I don't say this lightly.  You don't know what your talking about. Memo isn't a software or a platform or annything.

The Memo referred to in the OP was an internal Memo, as in a document sent to other people.   It was talking about how their current plan was flawed and leading to them losing market share.

i meant Meego OS, i just mixed up with the names

Still doesn't really make sence.  Meego was expensive as hell... at least compaired to the ROI.

They couldn't afford to keep all those developers on staff for such a tiny percentage of marketshare.

The Memo barely mentions Meego outside of how it's sales weren't doing awesome, which everybody already knew.

I mean hell, again saying this is a huge microsoft conspiracy is silly, because it's not even the most popular conspiracy theory.

There is a more popular one... but with actual analyst backing.

http://blogs.computerworld.com/windows-phone/22748/did-nokia-blackmail-microsoft-sale-threatening-abandon-windows-phone

Which in of itself is silly as hell but hey.  It's atleast plausable.

Lately with this financial stuff, people have been trying to be critical of a platform, and been critisizing it for the exact opposite of what the valid complaints are.   It's "Should sony spin off Sony Entertainment" all over again.

Also, if Nokia made any mistakes... it was moving it's factories out of Finland. Had they kept them their they might of gotten some sweet sweet government bailout and price support... ala Samsung in Korea.

... this is the chart which was important prior to 2011

Nokia was going downhill.. especially with their smartphone.. the Nokia N97 went up against the iPhone.. their future was very bleak ..

people shouldn't let silly things like MS hate overlooking the simple facts..

What the shit happend to Motorola in Q4:08 o.o

Thats actually the almost reason why Nokia didn't go with Android.. Nokia wanted to add their stuff to android but Google wouldn't let them
Google was laying down the rules and Nokia was prevented to add stuff to android

Continueing with Symbian wasn't an option.. It was old and not third party friendly.. The developement of Meego really was behind.. They expected to release 3 meego phones till 2014.. 3! it was bug infested and just not ready..

People should read this article about what of a mess Elop found when he started at Nokia

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_24/b4232056703101.htm#p1

About a Nokia ignoring the iPhone how a touchscreen wouldn't work cause they already tried it, not noticing that android was taking the low and mid range segment, slow development of Meego etc
