Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft needs to cut the price of Xbox One by $100 before launch

The pricing for the system is fine. Microsofts not the problem, the problem stem from ganers feeling entitled. Whiny gamers are holding this generation back, and ruined Microsofts original model that was truly taking gaming in a new refreshing direction. Other than the fact it forgot about the implications it had with our military being unable to play an American made console it was fantastic. Im a gamer thru and thru I own every console made ( including the ill fated 3do which cost me $700 at launch and atari jaguar). I bought a wii u even tho outside of monster hunter I never touch it. I have a pc thay can max out every game with out breaking a sweat, and I have preordered the ps4 and the xbox one. I just want to play great games whether its killzone shadowfall or titanfall. Both systems are going to be great and both are fairly priced. Kinect has its issue but by all accounts kinect 2.0 is fantastic and even if I never use it my wife and son will and that's $100 well spent. Microsofts not the problem. Its gamers.

LOL you have got to be kidding me.  That was all Microsoft's fault with their poor way of showing what benefits that new model had.  Idk how anyone can defend that shit unless Microsoft is paying you too.  The negatives far outweighed the positives and gamers didn't wanna get fucked over by Microsoft, maybe you did, but other people didn't.

The desire for both consoles to be identical is getting boring now, let them have something different instead of just the names.

Completely agree. Makes you miss the days of "blast processing" and "mode 7" :).

how does anything outweigh cheaper new games unlike the current model?

Requiring a internet connection, which meant once they shut down the servers your console and all your games would become paper weights and they would force you to buy the next XBOX.  You couldn't share your games with your friends, and you could only trade it into certain retailers, probably the ones that would give you the least for your games and they would probably give you even less because they know you can't trade them in anywhere else.  Kinect being required to be connected, so if it fell off your TV and broke then your console would not work anymore and you would have to pay to buy a new kienct.  I'm probably forgetting a couple things.  Also show me the link to where Microsoft said they were gonna lower the price of new games.  I can't believe anyone would defend this shit.

1. servers from games from 15 years ago are still up, i dont see

2. not you login on your account and play on his xbox, if you trade in the games point 1 is moot aneyway

3. kinect breaking is the same as rrod=>within ms warrantee

3. see steam wiiware live and psn games, less 2nd hand sharing means more sales which means lower prices needed to make profit which coul benefit us!

Isnt that like suggesting that Sony needs to cut the price of the PS4 before launch because the Wii U has a huge price advantage over them?
I know most will comment back that the PS4 offers more, but when comparing the X1 to PS4 the X1 offers more in the box as well.
I am not sure how anyone can claim one needs a price cut but the other one doesn't.

Sony has superior tech for a similar price to the Wii U. They need to drop the Wii U's price to $299 and quick. Wii U poses no threat to the coming consoles. Nintendo cannot explain to the average consumer the disparity in graphics and power between the coming next gen consoles and the Wii U.

MS has superior tech int he box to PS4. Same difference dude. Also WIi U is being dropped to 299.99 so that puts the price difference the same between all 3. Suggesting one needs a price drop but not the other seems silly.

First point is true though we dont know how much

Second point is completely opinion with nothing to base it one

Third point doesnt even make sense. What disparity are you talking about? There are no PS4 or X1 games released at this point to even back up that claim

I will just dismiss you as bias and unable to look at things fairly. You obviously hate them and cant be asked to judge them with an open mind

Actually, no. The PS4 is the most powerful console on the market, Microsoft is scrambling to catch up to have some sort of parity. This is why the PS4 reveal was such a surprise and MS did not show off the Xbox until May.

What I am saying has a point, you just do not want to see it because you are biased. If you think someone sees a price tag on the Wii U and looks at a PS4 and thinks Wii U is even in its league, I am sorry, but you're living in a dream world, my friend.

Per the BOLD: For the core gamers, you are 100% correct.  The problem is that the core isn't the big part of the market, they are your first 6-12 months buyers.  The second tier group "regular gamers - COD/Battlefield/Halo" they probably will buy what their friends are buying and will know the difference in between the consoles, but will decide based on their $$$ and the media sway.  The last group are the "pure casuals", they buy what they think their kids want based on what the media tells them - the most popular.  Seeing as how about half of the consoles sold fall into the last group, Sony hasn't won anything yet.  Look at the wii, that's proof in itself that the public is easily swayed, and you never really know what they will fall for.

The 360 won the battle of word of mouth in the beginning, Sony closed the tie by filling replacing words with games. The PS4 will have word of mouth in the beginning now and it will have higher rated launch games, mark my words.

I don't diagree with you completely.  I just disagree with how you get there.  The first 6 months for sure, both the PS4/XBO will sell through either way.  So, the word of mouth thing is kind of irrelevent at first.  Unless Sony outproduces M$ by an extremely large margin, that train of thought will be useless.  The problem for M$ will come after that with their pricing.  Unless they bundle the unit with some free content, it will be hard to overcome the $100 price differential.

Isn't the PS4 about, what, 6 times as powerful as the Wii U going by more conservative objective measures? At only 1.3 times the price? You wouldn't think buying a Wii for $200 today is an amazing deal, would you?

Microsoft's problem is it's both considerably more costly and considerably less powerful, although I'd certainly argue it's still far better bang for the buck hardware wise than the Wii U (Although I still prefer my Wii U for the fantastic software).

The people who would pay $500 for a console are NOT the same people who would enjoy Kinect, in fact the people that would are the kinds of people that would even be deterred by Kinect if anything.

Microsoft simply doesn't have a choice for the time being, they need to offer a Kinectless pack and undercut the PS4 by at least $50 if they want to be competitive given Playstation brands more global advantage, as well as the PS4's power advantage.

Higher rated launch games? Forza 5 will be the highest rated launch exclusive.

I am sure, but I am speaking for the overall launch. So far Forza is looking like Microsofts only launch gem.
