No they don't.
And what makes everyone think MS would be mad about second place? The Wii U isn't exactly going to steam roll the XB1. The 360 was on second place for many many years and MS didn't seem upset about that.
Cutting $100 without getting rid of the Kinect will make them bleed money, and they seem pretty steadfast on not getting rid of the Kinect.
It's just that simple.

Per the BOLD: For the core gamers, you are 100% correct. The problem is that the core isn't the big part of the market, they are your first 6-12 months buyers. The second tier group "regular gamers - COD/Battlefield/Halo" they probably will buy what their friends are buying and will know the difference in between the consoles, but will decide based on their $$$ and the media sway. The last group are the "pure casuals", they buy what they think their kids want based on what the media tells them - the most popular. Seeing as how about half of the consoles sold fall into the last group, Sony hasn't won anything yet. Look at the wii, that's proof in itself that the public is easily swayed, and you never really know what they will fall for. |
The 360 won the battle of word of mouth in the beginning, Sony closed the tie by filling replacing words with games. The PS4 will have word of mouth in the beginning now and it will have higher rated launch games, mark my words.
as i said here : http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=167581&page=1#
its mainly a kinect issue, remove kinect and profit from a percieved $100 pricecut while not dropping the price on the console by a cent.

Not arbitrary at all. 45 million consoles sold in America and counting. Xbox One could totally bomb everywhere else in the world and still sell 60 million consoles because of America alone. So yes...America. Its the most important market so I dont know what to tell you.

Higher rated launch games? Forza 5 will be the highest rated launch exclusive.

I actually wonder if MS is competing in the same market as Sony. The way that MS is headed, they are going for the more broader appeal where devices like the Apple TV and Google stuff will be positioned. In other words the millions of people who are willing to spend 500 dollars on a tablet. Not sure if thats the best course of action but that seem to be MS direction.
All my friends are getting PS4 - 99% of the most popular games are multiplats and PS4 will be as good and likely better. If I got xone I'd have play online alone with strangers but I'll probably still get one 3-4 years from now when it's $300 just for Halo.
ganoncrotch said: very good read, agree with a lot of it, it's not even like it's hard to figure out a way of doing it... have a launch model which doesn't have kinect and the headset in the box, sorted. Even drop the hdmi cable, sure it's just a dollar or 2 from the price to include it but who owns a hdtv and doesn't have a few of these sitting around spare? |
Depends on the company goals. Gamers mostly only look at the now and base their comments for today but a business needs a vision that stretches a lot longer. For MS, Kinect is the X1 and what they have planned for the device is not going to be decided on day one sells. In truth only fanboys bicker about pre-order numbers and who is selling the most per week. The key for MS is to keep steady sells and maintain profits. They need to separate the X1 from the PS4 and show the benefits of Kinect as a device worth the money. If they cannot succeed in that they they will probably drop it from the device and move on but it appears to me MS success with the X1 is greatly tied with that device. Come hell or high water they need to make the X1 as it is a success.
Sony took the risk with the blu-ray and it paid off sort of. MS big risk is the Kinect 2.0.
The desire for both consoles to be identical is getting boring now, let them have something different instead of just the names.
