Glad someone else liked it.  I am a fan of trying to find games done up in film/animation that generate interest in them.  Hikaru No Go is another one I believe, for Go.

Still clutching the straws for a potential third (and final) season of Kaiji, still praying under the stars for that to happen. Why don't take a peek into One Outs blends the psychological nature of Kaiji/Akagi with the game of Baseball :P

Basilisk hasn't been touted yet....

Inspired by Hikaru No Go, they did an anime based on Xiangi (Chinese Chess) where the kids in the show end up play a VR version of the game, and the series is based around it:

There is also an anime based around Shogi (mute girl has trama from her past, but is real good at Shogi/Chess from Japan):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shion_no_Ō

(That was turned into an anime series).

Now if someone would just do an anime about tournament players of retro videogames, I would be happy to see that

You don't. You don't start watching animes cause then comes the waifus and the believe its and the getsuga tenshous and the tentacles and you just don't wanna be associated with that stuff...

Death Note
Durarara!
FoolyCooly (FLCL)
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (don't bother with the older version. Brotherhood is far better)
One Piece

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

If you don't like the standard Shounen stuff, I recommend (in no particular order):

Ghost In The Shell: SAC + 2nd Gig

Black Lagoon

Last Exile

Honey & Clover

Genshiken

Heroic Age

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Golgo 13

Wolf's Rain

Avoid One Piece, Bleech, and Naruto. a) Those are a bit childish b) They are long, One Piece is already twice as long as DBZ with no end in sight.

That's the best part of it :)

DONT avoid One Piece, it's simply amazing. Seriously. My mind was blown way too many times and my feelings were a goddamn rollercoaster during the 3 weeks that took me to watch all 400 episodes (vacation rocks)that were released at the time. So many awesome things...

Also, read the manga, it's wayy better than the anime (which is so good already). Oda's drawing later on became quite beautiful.

Next-gen is upon us folks!

I agree.  I LOVE OP.  It took about 20 eps for me to really get into it, but once I got reeled in, there was no looking back.

Why is the manga so good? isnt it just like a comic?

It's the perfect blend of comedy, action, creativity and characterization.  Most Shounen manga gets stagnant and repetitive after a while, but OP, at least for me, has been the exception.  I also like the fact that Oda does a lot of research and incorporates mythos from other cultures into his storylines.  The manga's been out since 1997 and yet there's still a ton of material to explore and major revealations yet to come.

My advice is pick 1 or 2 anime's and watch them. If you like them see what others have recommended.

This one guy on youtube Anime Zone - gigguk. I tend to agree with his reviews 9/10 times. He's also reviewed most of the better anime's IMO, and the video's themselves are kinda funny. At 5-10 minutes each, they give you a good sense of the quality of the anime without spoiling anything. I'll try to embed the code, the video below is Death Note's review
