Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bethesda/Gearbox point out why they don't support Wii U

http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/jyfd3n/bonus-round-questions-from-the-audience

Very interesting episode. I'd recommend you watch at least the first half which deals with what Nintendo could do to gain 3rd party support, and  two 3rd parties are talking about their experience directly. Some of the main points seems to be (I'm paraphrasing):

-Nintendo made their box without really consulting 3rd parties, whereas Sony and MS have done so from a very early point of the PS4/One development.

-Wii U not in parity with the PS4/One. Requires additional resources because of architecture and the need to cut stuff out of a game to fit the Wii U hardware.

-Audience is different from what Bathesda/Gearbox makes, which makes them reluctant to spend additional resources.

-Nintendo's online is subpar when next gen seems to be focusing more and more on the co-op/competitive experience.

I tried to summarise as best I could, but to hear it exactly from the horse's mouth, watch the episode.

Seems like Nintendo and those two just have different gaming philosophies and priorities which they use to excuse themselves from working with each other.

It's Bethesda.

Bethesda has enough trouble properly supporting Microsoft and Sony platforms. :/

Bethesda isn't very good at programming. So, no wonder they don't want to take extra risks. And Gearbox can lick my butt. The only thing these guys can get right is Borderlands. Overrated as hell.

Around the Network

The last time Nintendo really had great third party support was with the SNES.

Is anyone really surprised? Nintendo like to do their own thing, and this is the result.

The online on Nintendo is just as good as the others. The onlie persistant worlds they are trying to do on ps4/x1 will flop hard. There arent enough players to populate all those games.

While it is disappointing to know that Bethesda doesn't have any current plans for the Wii U, I'm at least glad we got a more concrete answer this time around. I imagine the Wii U owners that do enjoy Bethesda games already utilize another platform to play their titles so it ultimately isn't that huge of a deal (Bethesda games are best on PC, where players have access to mods), but I hope in the future Nintendo can establish a better relationship with western third-party developers.

Pretty much what DICE guy said in that EG interview - combination of hardware + audience.

This is not surprising. And not 'wrong' or 'strange' too.

If I were Bethesda or Gearbox, I wouldn't make games on Nintendo systems either. The audience not being there on a Nintendo system is evident. They don't make the 'right' games for it. Same with RockStar. I ignored the ignorant statement about the online though.
