I don't know what you guys are talking about. New Super Mario Bros. U is obviously a killer launch title.

Even as someone who pre-ordered a PS4 the launch line up is just okay. Then again, to me anyone who buys a system solely on launch line up is bit short sighted. It is a 5-8 year investment and the PS1, PS2, and PS3 have earned my trust of systems well supported to the end of their lives.

Yep, launch titles are usually under whelming, when compared to the games that come out over the long haul. I buy a systems based off previous experience. Sony always delivers on the games.

I mean, I can't seriously believe that he thinks Nintendo doesn't make new IPs because one bombed.

he is saying this cause nintendo fans only buy nintendo stuff, all they buy is mario and zelda

That didn't prevent them from creating the Operation Rainfall and supporting three new IPs.

and look how good they sold compared to mario and zelda

point?

When I saw that on IGN, even though I love Nintendo games and will pick up a WiiU next year, I figuratively cracked up

You are my favorite person on the internet for today because you used the term figuratively in the correct context instead of using the word literally in an incorrect context. (I'm completely serious about that, the incorrect use of literally is a pet peeve of mine)

On Topic:

Last year when the Wii U launched I looked at the launch lineup and it was quite impressive IF you disregard that many of the games were late ports that were available on other systems. There were a few exclusives but mainly second stringers (one example: NSMBU, a 2D Mario Platformer, while it has the capability of big sales isn't as big for the core market) or new ips/games (ie. NintendoLand)

Now I look at the XB1 and PS4 launch lineups and I see a very similar situation. Many of the games coming at launch or in the launch windows of both consoles will be available on other systems earlier (WatchDogs, Battlefield, COD, FIFA, etc.) and the exclusive content is either from the respective company's more second string IPs (no GT, Uncharted, Halo, Gears, etc.) or new IPs/games that could be big but are unproved.

Wii U has been in one of the worst software droughts for a major console I've seen in quite a while and is just now starting to get a good lineup coming out, that's good but there's no need to downplay the relatively good launch lineups of the competitors.

I'm not trying to defend Reggie, this is an obvious troll and I'd like him to be a little less arrogant but I will be purchasing somewhere between 4 and 6 new games on Nintendo systems in the next 3 months or so (and probably a 3DSXL bundle) so maybe $400-500 while I plan to spend maybe $50-100 on my PS3 if that and have no plans to buy any hardware from them for a few years yet.

I literally was going to type literally in that same spot but caught myself.  Then switched it to figuratively just to see if anyone would get it.  Congradulations you win me quoting you.  On topic, I will agree that WiiU's exclusive lineup looks better than X1/PS4 THIS year.  However I had zero interest in anything on WiiU last year around this time.  I have a very strong interest in Killzone and many of those free to play games on PS4 this year.  I also have a slight interest in Knack.  It's all down to personal preference but if we're comparing launch linups (which I think is the only fair way to do this) then PS4 wins for me personally.  Just to reiterate I AM buying a WiiU since people like to label me a Playstation fanboy on this site.  I'm just not quite as anxious for Nintendo as I am for Sony so I'm waiting until next year on Black Friday when my favorite franchises are on it (I usually end up doing most of my Nintendo gaming by playing 4 player Mario Kart and Smash Bros games).  I would say PS4's 2014 Fall linup should be compared with WiiU's lineup this year when we know what it will be.  Then we'll have a fair comparison.

I don't hate Nintendo but why don't they create new quality IPs?

You might want to look at Wonderful 101's sales it'll probably answer your question.

I look at The Last of Us' sales and I don't understand your answer. Unless you're especifically talking about Nintendo crowd and Nintendo games. In that case, I look at Xenoblade's sales and I still don't understand your answer.

Well since he was asking about quality IPs I assumed he didn't count any of Nintendo new IPs this past generation as "quality" (even though Xenoblade is one of my favourite games ever T_T) otherwise he wouldn't have asked the question. Usually when people make this statement about Nintendo they refer to them not making AAA budget games like Last of Us or Bioshock: Infinite. Whilst W101 may not be an AAA game (I think) it's the closest thing Nintendo have done recently as I recall Plantinum Games saying it had the largest dev team and development cycle compared to any of their other games. Also the director of the game said that the game had a higher budget than Bayonetta which is considered an AA - AAA game.

On the other hand my sterotypical assumption on the user's term "new quality IPs" could be wrong and Eternal might be clueless about Nintendo and is just reiterating some erroneous statement commonly articulated by Nintendo slanderers. I however think Nintendo create more desirable new IPs than Microsoft and Sony combined (subject to personal preference). Nintendo do nonetheless create new IPs frequently, that is fact.

I would say; "Pride comes before the fall" but it already happened to nintendo...
