The game looked like a sales flop stamped on each one of its pores since day one. First Pikmin 3, now W101 and then Wind Waker HD. Nintendo had to come back with a winning bid as the Wii. Investing in the Hardcore market (fully saturated) is no longer the solution.

Yeah, Nintendo didn't invest in the "Hardcore" market, they attempted to pull off another Wii or the standard Nintendo portable strategy of a decently powered but not expensive to make system. I mean look at the software aside from Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 and X what exactly seems to indicate they are aiming toward competing against the likes of Halo, Call of Duty or anything? The fact that the system is strong enough to handle 3rd party multiplatformer?
Nintendo's problem is they short changed the system in a number of ways and got caught flat footed with poor marketing , not having software or promised features ready at launch to make people care about the Wii U. Failure clearly lies with the hardware division and marketing maybe the executives that probably came up with the budget for the internal specs but nothing about the Wii U is anyless casual then the Wii save Nintendo being unable to replicate the success.
