Soundwave you make a lot of baseless claims: what are the proofs exactly that games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit won't sell well? What are the proof that casual gamers won't buy any new consoles when the right games will be released? I don't see any. It's like people assuming handhelds and 3DS especially were dead because of smartphone and that didn't happen. Now games like AC or Tomodatchi for example even sell really well to the casual gamers that the same people assumed will never buy such a device anymore. So there is really nothing to back up your assertions.

I still think WiiU will dominate next gen: Nintendo has sold 100 millions consoles with very little support for hardcore games from third parties and there is no reason for this to happen agian this time. Even if WS and WF don't sell as well as the previous iterrations of these series this is a huge difference. The WiiU line up this fall is also by far the best one of all three console and 2014 is also at least as impressive.

The fact that Brain Training 3DS, Nintendogs + cats, Nintendo Land, Game & Wario have had a tiny fraction of the success of Wii/DS blue ocean games does not bode well for Wii Sports/Fit.

3DS has taken a massive hit from the smartphone/tablet business, the Vita has been practically rendered moot entirely, the gaming handheld business has shrunk tremendously. Depsite Nintendo throwing a $80 price reduction and every Mario game + Animal Crossing + some decent third party support + a model revision, the 3DS is behind the DS and GBA in sales at equivalent points in its lifespan and it's a gap that grows larger every month, not smaller.

The Wii U is nothing like the Wii anyway -- it doesn't have a controller that's making people go crazy over it, and without that it's just a GameCube successor that's very late to the HD generation.

It's not a serious threat to Sony just yet, unless Nintendo starts taking risks with new types of software. They don't need sequels to Wii Sports/Fit they need the *next* Wii Sports, unfortunately Angry Birds and Plants Vs. Zombies and things like that are the actual successors to the casual gaming fads.

The 3DS is selling almost as well as the DS at the same period so I don't see how it took a huge hit exactly. Also Nintendogs and BT didin't sell well but AC or TC among other did so there is no reason to think WS and WF won't do as well.

Even if Nintendo doesn't release the new Wii Sports they still have Wii Sports and this the biggest serie ever and until we have proofs that it is not anymore there is no reason to think otherwise.

There is plenty of reason to think otherwise. Guitar Hero was the biggest franchise in gaming 5-6 years ago too ... today it wouldn't even sell 500k worldwide if they made a new one.

Casual gamers are a different breed from core gamers, they don't want endless sequels to the same game over and over again regardless of improvements, they want something completely different every couple of years.

Ditto for Brain Training ... a 20 million selling franchise just a few years ago, today can barely muster up 400k worldwide. THAT is one hell of a drop off.

These things have a limitedcd shelf life. The other problem is all these casuals are now used to only having to pay $1 to get their 15-20 minute a day "gaming fix" or not even a $1, lol.

I think in general Nintendo Land not being able to move Wii U's and cause any real excitement with casuals speaks volumes. 4-5 years ago a Mii-based game based around popular Nintendo IP like that probably would sell 10-20 million, today the time for that kind of idea has passed.

I think Sony is smart by not even bothering to make a Sports Heroes or token Wii Sports type title for PS4. Apple/Google simply are not going to let go of that audience now that they have them.

I think the reason Guitar Hero died was because there was like 50 installments in those few years. Wii Sports on the other hand has 2 entries in 7 years.

I also think Brain Training massive drop is due to being able to find games just like it on smartphones. The same cant be said for Wii Sports/Fit.

I doubt Sports/Fit will come close to there predecessors but they can each sell a few million.

2013 is not finished you know and with the holidays, Pokemon, Zelda or MH don't worry it will end selling really well this year too. Be careful how you interpret those numbers...

I mean is there any way for Sony to screw this up?

 and Sony isn't anchored to a $599.99 price point this time around either.

$400 + 5 years of subs = $650

They still have an expensive console it's just that they slip in the knife slooooowly

Too early to tell yet, but it seems pretty likely to me.

Depends if the Wii U will end up going the way of the Gamecube or the Wii. Xbox One doesn't seem to stand much of a chance at this point, if it's struggling to win NA, other regions are pretty much a lost cause.

It's an indication nothing more. 3DS is going to be huge during the holidays for sure. However, the decline is also too significant to ignore considering a price cut and the XL redesign have already taken place.

Unless the Wii Fit/Sports craze kicks back in something crazy and soccer moms, grandpas, kid sisters, etc. start buying Wii U's in droves, I don't think Sony has much to worry about from Wii U.

Mario Kart and Smash Brothers Sony and MS can deal with, Nintendo is dangerous when they are taking risks with new ideas, but Nintendo has grown gun shy and the Wii U is a really awkard console seemingly designed for no particular demographic. Wii U in a lot of ways is the anti-Wii.

XBox 1 I think actually has more potential with casuals once they get the price down.

okay dude, sony never has to do a thing but nintendo needs a huge hit in order to suceed. it's not like games matter, right?

Its the games or more specifically, the exclusives that will make the winner this gen, and it seems to me that Microsoft are going all out to get exclusives and timed exclusives, i know Sony has alot of studios and im sure its told them all to start making AAA games for the console.
Microsoft started well with the 360 games lineup but in the end it couldnt keep it up like Sony could and i think the same thing will happen again this Gen, But i dont think its going to be a walkover like some people seem to think its going to be, im predicting a gen where each console will keep over taking each other various times through each year.

One thing you can predict is
USA= XboxOne
Europa= PS4
Japan/asia=PS4

I wonder though how badly that $100 difference with burn MS in North America. We're more price concious over here, a lot of 360 owners who are tired of this gen cycle may opt to go PS4 early on given the substantial difference in price.

yet you ignore the $100 difference between wii u and ps4.

No, Nintendo need a lot of hits, which are they aren't going to get without huge 3rd party support.

What makes you think Sony aren't going to "do a thing".

I'm gonna go with John Lucas and say Sony and M$ have fallen into Nintendos elaborate trap by offering expensive mechanical monstrosities. They will proceed to be dismantled completely as soon as they release their consoles. The kids will know their place and become niche in the face of father Nintendo, and so will all the traitorous scum that follows them at the expense of the great and wise father Nintendo.
