Soundwave you make a lot of baseless claims: what are the proofs exactly that games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit won't sell extremely well? What are the proofs that casual gamers won't buy any new consoles when the right games will be released? I don't see any. It's like people assuming handhelds and 3DS especially were dead because of smartphones and that didn't happen. Now games like AC or Tomodatchi for example even sell really well to the casual gamers that the same people assumed will never buy such a device anymore. And in fact smartphones and tablets were competing much more directly with handhelds that they are with consoles: if you want to play Wii Fit or Wii sports you certainly can't do that on such devices. So there is really nothing to back up your assertions.

I still think WiiU will dominate next gen: Nintendo has sold 100 millions consoles with very little support for hardcore games from third parties and there is no reason for this to happen again this time at least certainly not in the same extend. Even if WS and WF don't sell as well as the previous iterrations of these series this is a huge difference. The WiiU line up this fall is also by far the best one of all three console and 2014 is also at least as impressive.

The fact that Brain Training 3DS, Nintendogs + cats, Nintendo Land, Game & Wario have had a tiny fraction of the success of Wii/DS blue ocean games does not bode well for Wii Sports/Fit.

3DS has taken a massive hit from the smartphone/tablet business, the Vita has been practically rendered moot entirely, the gaming handheld business has shrunk tremendously. Depsite Nintendo throwing a $80 price reduction and every Mario game + Animal Crossing + some decent third party support + a model revision, the 3DS is behind the DS and GBA in sales at equivalent points in its lifespan and it's a gap that grows larger every month, not smaller.

The Wii U is nothing like the Wii anyway -- it doesn't have a controller that's making people go crazy over it, and without that it's just a GameCube successor that's very late to the HD generation.

It's not a serious threat to Sony just yet, unless Nintendo starts taking risks with new types of software. They don't need sequels to Wii Sports/Fit they need the *next* Wii Sports, unfortunately Angry Birds and Plants Vs. Zombies and things like that are the actual successors to the casual gaming fads.

If I would be into those long term, gen spanning bets, I would love to make a bet with you that Nintendo won't dominate anything in the home console market this generation. And seriously, believing it after it's first 9 months already, when it's the slowest selling home console post launch since I don't know Dreamcast or earlier. Wow.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Yeah, having the cheapest console and free online is way too expensive and unreasonable.

The 3DS is selling almost as well as the DS at the same period so I don't see how it took a huge hit exactly. Also Nintendogs and BT didin't sell well but AC or TC among other did so there is no reason to think WS and WF won't do as well.

Even if Nintendo doesn't release the new Wii Sports they still have Wii Sports (among others of course) and this is the biggest ip ever and until we have proofs or at least compelling arguments that it is not anymore there is no reason to think that it won't attract again a lot fo casual gamers, casual gamers that we have no proofs again won't buy another console any time soon if ever.

I don't think PS4 will outsell 3DS.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Even if Nintendo doesn't release the new Wii Sports they still have Wii Sports and this the biggest serie ever and until we have proofs that it is not anymore there is no reason to think otherwise.

There is plenty of reason to think otherwise. Guitar Hero was the biggest franchise in gaming 5-6 years ago too ... today it wouldn't even sell 500k worldwide if they made a new one.

Casual gamers are a different breed from core gamers, they don't want endless sequels to the same game over and over again regardless of improvements, they want something completely different every couple of years.

Ditto for Brain Training ... a 20 million selling franchise just a few years ago, today can barely muster up 400k worldwide. THAT is one hell of a drop off.

These things have a limited shelf life. The other problem is all these casuals are now used to only having to pay $1 to get their 15-20 minute a day "gaming fix" or not even a $1, lol.

I think in general Nintendo Land not being able to move Wii U's and cause any real excitement with casuals speaks volumes. 4-5 years ago a Mii-based game based around popular Nintendo IP like that probably would sell 10-20 million, today the time for that kind of idea has passed.

I think Sony is smart by not even bothering to make a Sports Heroes or token Wii Sports type title for PS4. Apple/Google simply are not going to let go of that audience now that they have them.

So how do you explain that AC, TC or MK for example sell so well with new iterrations? Even if Wii Sports U or Wii Fit U sell just a portion of what the first ones did it could still be a huge success, a much bigger one than anything to be released on the other consoles any time soon.
