Forums - Gaming Discussion - So PS4 Is Basically Going To Win This Gen, Right?

Sony looks #1 right now but anything can happen, if sony takes MS in US then Sony>>>MS.

As for the winner? Nintendo! Yes its an obvious choice, the 3DS will easily win this gen!

I wouldn't be so certain. They'll have the best launch, but how people will accept it say, 6 months in, is as of yet an unknown. So if Nintendo strike hard with Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and a price cut, and other smaller titles, I could see them snatching the momentum and the generation with it.

So, I say it's probable, that the PS4 will be win, but not certain, and not by much.

Unless the Wii Fit/Sports craze kicks back in something crazy and soccer moms, grandpas, kid sisters, etc. start buying Wii U's in droves, I don't think Sony has much to worry about from Wii U.

Mario Kart and Smash Brothers Sony and MS can deal with, Nintendo is dangerous when they are taking risks with new ideas, but Nintendo has grown gun shy and the Wii U is a really awkard console seemingly designed for no particular demographic. Wii U in a lot of ways is the anti-Wii.

XBox 1 I think actually has more potential with casuals once they get the price down.

Ya it should win comfortably. Wii U will be strong competition and can outsell it in 2014/15 with a price cut and big Nintendo franchises but Nintendo consoles tend to drop in sales after 3 years. One will be tough competition throughout the generation but more worldwide appeal will help PS4 outsell in every year.

Lifetime sales
Wii U 40-50 million
One 60-70 million
PS4 80-100 million

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Its the games or more specifically, the exclusives that will make the winner this gen, and it seems to me that Microsoft are going all out to get exclusives and timed exclusives, i know Sony has alot of studios and im sure its told them all to start making AAA games for the console.
Microsoft started well with the 360 games lineup but in the end it couldnt keep it up like Sony could and i think the same thing will happen again this Gen, But i dont think its going to be a walkover like some people seem to think its going to be, im predicting a gen where each console will keep over taking each other various times through each year.

One thing you can predict is
USA= XboxOne
Europa= PS4
Japan/asia=PS4

I wonder though how badly that $100 difference with burn MS in North America. We're more price concious over here, a lot of 360 owners who are tired of this gen cycle may opt to go PS4 early on given the substantial difference in price.

Hard 2 tell, in the console wars anything can happen.

But similarly, aside from the die-hard fans, who's going to buy a PS4 or X1? We've seen from the other systems released thus far that price is a major sticking point, and after the craze dies down from all those people who are so desperate for another console generation (of which there is admittadly a significant number), who's going to buy the systems? Particularly the X1, for £430.

PI don't think people who are on this forum quite understand how much of a selling point the price is for a lot of people, and just how long it'll take for the public to really take up next gen. When, lets face it, there isn't an awful lot wrong with this gen for the next 12 months at least.

However, that aside, I do see the PS4 having a relatively weak 2014, but picking up thereafter when support for this gen dies down, so I still see it doing the best.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Way too early to tell. It's looking promising for Sony but I think that's the best anyone can really say at this point. I can see Microsoft pulling things together again and maybe something big coming out on Kinect to pull the casuals in. Not sure about Nintendo though TBH, I don't think the gamepad has worked out the way they wanted and they are kind-of stuck with it.

It will burn into the sale a little bit, but i think those people will simply wait for a price reduction and then those sales that microsoft lost at the start will come back when its reduced. Thats why im expecting each console to keep taking the lead.

Its seems microsoft might be releasing on nov 8th (a rumour i just read) so their already planning on getting the headstart and probably hoping for a word of mouth to convince other people to buy. I cant wait to see what happens though, its exciting :)

oh and for the record ive got the PS4 preordered. but i never say never to a XboxOne if it has the games.

2014 looks pretty solid for the PS4 to be honest.

Destiny (best console version on PS4?), inFamous: Second Son, Octodad, MGSV, Final Fantasy XV, more true next-gen versions of Madden NFL, FIFA, NHL, NBA 2K, and probably a lot more we don't know about yet (Uncharted 4 seems likely for Nov 2014).
