Forums - Gaming Discussion - Capcom's CEO tries to explain why Monster Hunter 4 is not on Vita

You're right OP! All this sudden and intense denial makes me think that PSVita MH4 is approaching fast. I would even bet on an unveiling at TGS.

Also, I find very strange that Siliconera had to close comments on this article. Would they have something to hide?

i wouldn't think that, sony fans keep burying a deeper hole with this MH4 on Vita, Capcom on numerous occasions has stated no plans even with less than a month upon release. As much it would help vita hardware and give it a great game, on 3DS it can easily sell 3mil+ vs Vita which could maybe to a little more than a mil! All im saying is dont get your hopes up......

Around the Network

there's a simple reason MH4 is coming to the 3DS. the PS2 engine would require little to no changes, so they can put it on the 3DS which is close in power to the PS2 than the PSV is, so yeah, they won't need to spend extra money, and Capcom doesn't like spending money.

Well let me say it for you then!

"Vita's microscopic install base"

Wich would turn gigantic with a Monster Hunter game.

Exactly. The vita version would outsell the 3ds version despite its 'microscopic install base'

based on what?...

if both versions were identical then maybe not, but it would still be profitable.

If both platforms were maxed out, Vita has a chance of outselling 3ds version. ofcourse theres no way to prove it, but theres also no way to prove it couldnt.

Theres games on PS3 that sold more than the wii version simply because it was made better, despite wii's larger install base.

It's not Capcoms job to sell Sony hardware.

As a company, its their job to maximise profitability for shareholders.

And you have no proof that having the game on both platforms would increase profitability. It's in Capcoms interest to have the audience united on one platform since developing the game for one platform is simply cheaper than developing the game for two platforms. Even if the port itself is profitable, chances are it would be at the cost of 3DS sales, the only real added value would be people who wouldn't buy the 3DS version because of (t)reasons. Also, no matter how cheap the port would be, it costs time and manpower and there is something called opportunity costs. Maybe capcom thinks they can increase profitability even further by spending those resources on other projects.

Thats like saying theres no point making wii U games because it will just take sales from the PS3/360. Its an argument that doesnt make sense.

And like i said in my comment above, only 1 capcom game on 3ds has sold more than a million units so opportunity costs is not an issue because they are still making handheld games which dont even sell a million units.

1. Capcom isn't making Wii U games afaik, so what's your point?

2. Who says the "Vita team" is tasked to make another 3DS or Wii U game? Maybe those ressources are allocated to the next Resident Evil game or a PS4 game? Also, 4.70 vs 0.28, figure out what that means.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Does this really needs any explanation ?
MH 4 is not on Vita for the same reason some upcoming home console games are not on WiiU...... smaller userbase and smaller sales forecast. Sometimes the cost of reprogramming a game for a platform does not match the potential profit that version will get.
I know this is kind of weird, considering that Monster Hunter is a big hit in Japan, but comparing both Vita and 3DS userbases there, there´s nothing surprising about this at all.
Or do people forgot that Capcom opted to make MH3 for Wii first, instead of the other consoles, due to production costs and smaller (at that time) userbase of other consoles ?

i dont agree, ps3 and wii audience is different, in handheld in japan they are more similar (even though sony = more mature). Even with vita having a maxed out version it wouldn't sell more than 3ds, we kno 2mil 3ds owners played mh, Not all 1.7mil vita owners play/tried mh before. 3DS version is guaranteed 3mil, while a full out vita we dont kno!!! Also its not fair to point out Capcom has 1 game over a mil on 3DS since its one of only 2 games that are over 1mil that are third party! just saying

no-but nintendo fears that the same could happenened with the wii vs the ps3.

In the beginning wii dominated the ps3 in any way but was buried in the end by the ps3 because of ps3's superior hardware. That's why Nintendo paid 100 million + to capcom to keep monster exklusive. This way they try to stiffle the Vita.

They know that monster hunter on vita can create a momentum and people may abandon the 3ds in favour of the vita(they did the same with dragon quest though dragon quest sold best on ps2)

the game works pretty simple:We can sell 7 million units on ps360,ps4,xbox1,vita.Profit per unit=20 dollar.=140million.If you(nintendo) give us 150 mio the game will be exclusiv.

the most funny thing about this capcom statement is:They are sequelling and converting games to death to every system they can like no other company as long as they can squeeze one single cent profit out of a game, but they try to tell you that they can't do that with their ultimate golden goose monster hunter.

It probably just devolved into the same kind of shit slinging that MH4 discussions always turn into. WHY NO VITA FUCK YOU CAPCOM 3DS IS SHIT vs. HAHAHA EVERY GAME IS COMING TO 3DS PERSONA 5 IS NEXT.

Jeez Vita fans. Let. It. Go. Already. It's been 2 years almost.

bayonetta 2 gets the same treatment, even though thats worse since it has 0% chance being multiplat!
