I dont think either controller is gonna revolutionise anything. Its all blabermouth.
But i guess this thread was needed in response to the one about the Xbox1 controller.

I hate gimmicks, I hope they dont over do the touch pad like they did with the six axis when it just came out. Other then that this will probably end up being my fav controller.

Lol at this whole post and the OP
I can see the touchpad having potential for UI navigation, or mouse/cursor implementation in games (e.g., strategy games), but it will ultimately be up to the developers to put it to good use. With that said, I really like the new analog sticks and triggers, as I disliked the convex ones of the previous generations (fingers would slip after holding toward a direction for a certain amount of time).
If this is a revolution.....
The Wii U gamepad is the second coming of Christ....
The interesting bit to me is how 100% of it is perfectly within reach of thumbs.
I used to hate touch controls in games until I got the Vita, which is the same way (entire screen can be touch with left or right thumb intuitively without letting go of normal grip).

I didn't know I've been operating my laptop with a gimmick for the last 12 years. I get where you're coming from though, will developers use it for what it's good for, pointer control for menu navigation and strategy planning, or only use it for a couple of rare special actions in games, like placing bombs in Killzone or walking a balance beam in Uncharted.
It would be great for a game like Valkyria chronicles or Baldur's gate style RPG.

Lair 2 with touch pad flying controls, bound to be a hit!
The sixaxis wasn't the biggest problem of Lair though, everything was a mess. Flower did it right, and umm hmm, just flower.
it's a revolution when Sony does what Nintendid but a gimmick if Nintendo does it
