Forums - Gaming Discussion - If the big 3 could only make new IPs from now on who would have the best exclusives? who would sell more?

Who would win the gen?

Sony 262 51.78%

Microsoft 26 5.14%

Nintendo 180 35.57%

See results 33 6.52%

Total:501

Sony. You only have to look at how many good new IPs that they developed or had part in developing this gen. Most of the games that Sony released this gen derived from new IPs and Sony has more good games than the competitors this gen in my opinion.

Three things wrong with that. First, the question was who would sell more and if they could servive without their current IPs. Nintendo can. Sony can't. No company can servive when their best selling IP hit only 6m. Second, you imply that starting a craze some how takes away from the quality of the game, when in fact, the quality of the game is what started the craze. Wrong. Three, you imply that casual games are lesser games. Wrong. People still play Wii Sports today. People love Wii Sports today. Most people have never heard of Uncharted.

Nintendo wins hands down. If they couldn't have the IP names, they'd simply make new IPs to fit the high quality games that they were missing. And they'd sell exactly like they do now and be used for the next 30 years. That's what they do.

Sony has Gran Turismo.

Dude, haha, what the hell are you talking about?  I implied that starting a craze takes away from the quality of a game or that casual games are lesser games?  No, I did not imply, you inferred.  Learn the difference.  Seriously.

Look, let me explain this to you, and why you're proving that Sony would do just fine without depending on established IP.  You're saying that Sony doesn't have any massive hits--yet their consoles still sell well and on a consistant basis.  Much more so than Nintendo or Microsoft, Sony has jumped to new IP with each new console while leaving behind previous IP.  That is to say, the reason Sony consoles perform well is that they're able to keep producing new IP that sell the consoles.  Playstation fans, in general, aren't buying a Playstation for the same IP, they're buying them because of the variety and number of IP.

I think it's quite obvious that Playstation would do just fine if they had to leave their current IP behind, as they're constantly producing new IP, anyway.  You've helped to prove that the brand is not dependent on any one IP and thus wouldn't be all that hurt with the loss.

Understand now?

Innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnncorrrect!

Sony consoles survive because of two things. New media services and Gran Turismo. That's it. Not the games. Not the "variety." Built in CD player when CD players were new and too expensive (PS), built in DVD player when DVD players were new and too expensive (PS2), built in Blu-ray player when Blu-ray players were new and too expensive (PS3), and portable DVD multimedia device when they didn't even exist yet (PSP). The proof is in the PS3, the PSP Go, and the Vita. People cared WAY less about the PS3 because it wasn't a cheaper alternative. Once it was, people bought it. And didn't buy games. PSP Go failed because by that time, the iphone was out did every media thing the PSP did, but better, smaller, with cheaper games, and it had a phone built into it. No one bought it. The ones who did didn't buy games. The Vita is failing because right now, the iphone is out and does every media thing the Vita does, but better, smaller, with cheaper games, and it has a phone built into it. No one is buying it. The ones who do are STRUGGLING to buy enough games for even one title to hit 1m sales after almost 2 years.

And I GUARANTEE in one year of the PS4 coming out, it will be in a far more dire position than people think now, because everyone already has a place to watch netflix, hulu, blu-ray, DVD, etc. It's 2013. Sony can only depend on games this time, and it's last 3 attempts, especially it's first true attempt the Vita, were complete financial disasters.

Sony can not servive on their new IP's alone. They barely do now. It's thanks to Gran Turismo that they do. A racing sim. A racing sim that, if ended, would have it's sales and fans shift to any of the other dozen quality and fantastic racing sims before Sony could even think to create another one.

So again, you are wrong. Understand now?

I used numerical and logical proof. Please prove me wrong with yours.

Ok i need my vote back! I misread your post and thought you meant only exclusives not just new ips and in which case Nintendo would win hands down because their current IPs sell millions more then 90% of Sony's and MS does not have enough to even provide a 6 month schedule none the less a full year!

In the case of just making brand new IPs id have to give the crown to Sony at least on these past few years but could Nintendo if put into that situation turn into the Nintendo of the NES/SNES days and start pumping out IPs once again that would just repeat their current franchises success?

Ubisoft!

Those creative guys come up with new stuff all the time. They work with everyone on everything.

They are limitless.

i am talking about the big 3. ubisoft is french, so even if they dominate the gaming industry they wont ever be from the big 3

That's why I chose 'See Results'  Cause I thought it was a little narrow.

Well, Sony makes games for their consoles and handhelds.  Nintendo makes games for their consoles and handhelds.  Microsoft makes games for their operating system Windows, Windows Phone, Tablets, and the Console.  And they make, what I'm pretty sure is the most played game in the word - the Solitaire game designed to teach people how to use a mouse.

But people would get all mad if I said that.  Then think, yea, they do make/publish a whole bunch of games most 'gamers' never think about.  Then people would realize, I have a point, but still hate it.  I would get called bias 'n stuff.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I keep forgetting about those damn "Wii" titled games like Wii Sports

I keep doing this for some reason

whenever I think of a new ip from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft, I think of stuff like Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Fable, Halo, Donkey Kong, Zelda etc

I don't think of stuff like Wii Sports, Kinect Sports, Sports Champions and all that other stuff like it. I don't know how to describe these type of games

They did make those though but I don't think people will go crazy over them anymore because Nintendo abandoned the Wii Mote for that We-took-a-step-backwards GamePad

If the Wii was ONLY Wii Sport, Wii play and all that other stuff WITHOUT the Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kongs, I don't think I would've bought the Wii. Those games were still good though

I think Nintendo should make more new ips that stand alongside the Kirbys and Starfoxs

I still pick Sony because of that but I wont disagree with somebody who says Nintendo(looking at the Wii)

It's obviously Sony.

Nintendo already proved with Wii and DS that they can create several new IPs which can be 10+ or even 20+ million sellers.

Who has the best exclusives now? NINTENDO.
The answer to your question is? NINTENDO.
