Smells Kinda Bad

Its B.S.

LOL

So cable providers are just going to give away huge bandwidth to anyone who buys a PS4 in the UK. So they will give away millions in lost revenue just to make Sony Happy. Or is Sony, who is bleeding cash still, just going to pay for everyone's montly cable bill...

Oh yes...can uuuuuu smell it!

I agree this sounds a little incredulous, but be respectful in how you convey your messages, please.

Yes it is very difficult to belive.  After looking on the web, Sony is basically trying to work with providers to have increased SLAs with their internet connections.   Its a deal that they are working with various providers in the UK to offer package plans (at a specific cost) to give better internet connectivity.  While it may be a good idea in theory, it would be very difficult in execution unless Sony is willing to help provide additonal infrastructre in all markets, which of course, is impossible...so yes, very incredulous.

As for my posting, it was just a joke from the WWE days with the Rock, it was not directed at any individual but rather the conecpt he posted.  200Mb/s is unrealistic and even if it were possible, that type of increased bandwidth would require extensive network redesign because cable modem is shared technology, so unless they are going to partion out a hugh amount of bandwidth for just Sony PS4, I just don't see that happening.

It is a deal between the internet guys and Sony. So say you have a 5MB connection but could be paying the ISP guys more to get a 10MB connection. Sony would just tell your ISP to bump that up for your PS4 apparently.

Or they are getting into providing internet. One of those two.

That would be pretty badass but still too good to be true xD

As far as I can tell... what it really is... is that Sony is negotiating with ISP's to make internet plans that better suit the PS4.

In otherwords, the end consumer still has to pay for it.  The new plans will just be more centered around the PS4.

So like....

Should be interesting though.   I mean... ISP partner....

does that mean if you don't use Virgin in the UK you can't connect online?  Or it's the only way to get good speed.... or what i wonder.

Turkey is not included.

UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.

I wanted some service like that here in Brasil too.

Sorry.  For some reason I keep thinking you're European.  I think this is twice now that you've said you're from Brazil.  I'll try to remember next time.

It's his Gran Turismo love

OT: I seem to have missed this news. When did they say this?

Gamecon conference :)

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"

Sounds way to good to be true. but if it is true, maybe thats where some or all the ps+ fees are going. Maybe you'll be paying for upgraded service via ps+. Only way it would makes any sense to me

the logic in this thread is amazing "this sounds cool! so it cant be true" you guys do realize that sony fucking announced it to be true right? that they already announce the partners and thus made the deals with them?

Because I had not heard about this, thanks for telling! Hopefully U.S will get a similar thing.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Because it is just vague limited broadband deals. Just wait for actual details

The problem isn't that it doesn't exist at all, but that it's likely not what people are thinking it is.

People are taking it as "Sony is making a deal to put cheap superfast broadband internet everywhere to anyone with a PS3".

When, if you look at the actual announcements and articles talking about it...

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/gaming/consoles/virgin-media-to-be-ps4-s-broadband-partner-may-offer-gamer-specific-deals-1174502

http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a508504/gamescom-2013-sony-announces-orange-virgin-ps4-broadband-packages.html

It all just sounds more like...  "Some companies will offer special deals for gaming focus online that will be branded with the Playstation name."

"Up to 200" doesn't mean we're going to lay pipe everywhere so everyone can get it.   It means in specific areas.

I'd guess what these deals will do is recognize the PS3 as a device and end the "throttling" that happens to consumers.   In effect meaning it's "reserved" for gaming.

I wonder how that is supposed to work. I mean, after all, my PS4 needs to be connected to my router and that thing is synchronized at a certain speed. The PS4 can't magically change that. So my ISP needs to bump up my Speed, if only for the PS4. Could be limited by the router to the specific Mac address of my PS4 or something.

But anyway, I already got 50 Mbit/s, I can live with that.
