No. That is wrong in so many ways.

Seems we're going for a single world gaming console society.

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

I think Sony know they have done all thats possible before Xmas, why do anything else right now (unless Pre-orders go the wrong way). At TGS they should announce a couple of Japanese games and then at the VGA's once the console has launched (and should start to have stock on shelves).. they can get hype up with UC4 or a new IP. I approve of this method even if i was disappointed with a lack of new AAA IP yesterday.

Just hope there arn't too many scalpers.. but i suspect they may target the Xbox more considering that is expected to have less stock.

PS4 will beat all records without a game from Sony Santa Monica, Naughty Dog or Polyphony Studios announced for PS4 yet.

This have to be scary for the competition....

More like the fans of the competition.

I see the statemant as worthy of laughs, not fear.

Amazing. Perhaps M$'s prediction of this gen growing leaps and bounds above the last are coming true.

or maybe it will peter out..

gamecube, wiiU, and vita had some of the best launch day  sales of any system yet things quickly turned sour just weeks after release.  don't get me wrong, i'm excited for these pre-order numbers but i am also very wary of them.  true success will need sustained sales not just a huge launch.

THIS.

Playstation 2 launched in Japan on March 4 2000. Ps2 shipments for fiscal year ending March 31 2000 was 1'41 million units. Later it launched in USA in October, and Europe and Australia in November 2000. PS2 reached 10'61 millions units shipped at 31 March 2001 shipping 9'20 millions units in Fiscal Year 2001 In the next Fiscal Year Ps2 shipped 18'07 units.

PS4 will sell much more at launch, but the question is, if it will be capable or reach ps2 levels in its second year

At 400$/€ Sony is definitely aiming to quickly gain installed units and make profits with game sales/subscriptions, so I think Sony will target above 10 million in shipments for 2014, but 15m+ would be extremely ambitious, as they never shipped that many PS3s in a FY.

the price would have to be lower than that for them to aim at quick installed base.

$400 for a PS4 has great value considering it's coming with like 6 games right out of the box without making a single purchase and $400 during holiday season for a new console sounds light, and the asking price isn't too astronomical that it'll see a slump anything like the Wii U saw, that and more support.

I think way too many people here (and probably most other places) aren't seeing the fact that more and more people are pre-ordering consoles than before. It's become easier to pre-order, so of course pre-orders can easily beat that of the PS2/PS3. Also, I don't think that pre-orders reflect anything about how successful the console will be. The Wii U broke some records with pre-orders as well, but as you all can see it's not doing so well.

If there weren't shortages, I wonder how much it would sell.

$400 is no mass market price. and could you explain the bolded?
