Forums - Sony Discussion - If Sony's best case scenario unfolded this year with the PS3, would you buy

Nope because it's mostly the same tired old games that have been on PS2 for years.

They would have to come up with some new ideas for me to want a PS3 and my son much prefers 'hardcore' style games on his PC now so he doesn't want a PS3 either.

Im not here to defend anything but what you said there is just plain stupid. Yeah it might be the old games that have been for years, but seeing from your game collection it's not like you have all "original titles"
if we take any 360 game can we really say it's not the same games? Halo 3 is really innovaive... yeah... and so is Bioshock...
and what about the Wii? people say it is original while even they don't hae this such big originality, Mario Galaxy is the same Mario we are used to, Zelda is Ocrania of Time with better graphics...
and hey I love all of these games! and thats what generally makes us buy these consoles...
would you all buy a nintendo console knowing that there would be no Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Smash Brothers? Seriously...

Sometimes having the "same old games" is wonderful because these old games are good, and we want always more good

Best to not pay any attention to the 'I own this game' because they are just some of the ones in the house, many which are my childrens.

I have only clicked on the ' I own this game' link when I happen to have come accross the game and can be bothered; so the games listed are in no way an accurate picture of what I own.

I know people in generally don't like change and prefer to stick to the same things in their life all the time but I personally want to try new interestingb things and can't get excited about most sequels and remakes if they play and look like what came before.

This comes from fanboy fantasy world here, but if all the rumored/hinted events occured without flaw, would you non-PS3 owners cave in and buy a PS3?

If.

1. PS3 "Slim" was released with smaller design, bigger HDD, and software BC for only $299.

2. Home and In-Game XMB allowed for integration and achievements both on classic gamercard style and in the virtual home world with trophies.

3. HD DVD concedes victory to BD and all HD releases are on BD. DVR ability is released for reasonable price.

4. Sony store adds movies/music to downloadable content.

5. MGS4,LBP,KZ2,FF,GT5, InFamous, and White Knight Story all turn out to be as solid as they are hyped up to be. (ooops and Resistance) AND all made it within the 2008 calendar.

6. Ports are equal on both the 360 and PS3.

7. Came with rumble controller.

8. And KH3 was announed for PS3 (maybe as exclusive, maybe not.)

Would this be enough to make you purhase a PS3? Or has Sony ruined any interest by releasing it initially at such a high price point?

Now please dont come in here and say "ZOOOOOOOOMG WONT HAPPEN!", because most likely it won't work out so nicely. However if it did occur this way, would you be willing to buy a PS3?

Only software BC? Software BC = No buy, for me. If I ever buy a PS3 it would have to have hardware BC. Even if it is the huge fatty PS3.

just let the ps3 slim rumor die, please. it's not gonna happen this year.

Ok so you are right about the game collction thing. Most people probably don't give a shit about it, so my bad on that.
but still, I myself like to try new and innovative games (Puzzle Quest, Portal to name a few that came out last year) but hey I don;t know how I would still be gaming seriously if I didn't have some of the same stuff. And also considering that 90% of games are derivate from something, even if it's a new IP, finding something new is not easy (and thats why it so exiting when they release one ).

I still can't believe you don't get exited if a sequel to a game that you loved comes out. I mean you really don;t give a crap about a new Mario or Zelda (maybe you just don't like these games but it was just to have a general example)...
Then again you really could have just taken gaming a break since you have a family to take care of, and i sincerely compliment you for letting your kids get into gaming and assisitng them and show them your interest. So many parents just think it's the freaking devil so yeah... Nice Job!

now that i know both 360 and ps3 require long installation of their games, i don't really see the point of buying one of those consoles. i thought there was some likelihood i'll get a ps3 down the road, but now it just seems pointless.

the Wii is an epidemic.

I haven't had to install anything on any of the 15 xbox 360 games that I own. I believe it's just the PS3 that requires installation for games.

No, I still probably wouldn't buy it. There are not a lot of games that hold my interest in the PS3s line-up and the few that do are also on the 360. The 360 has some exclusives that do interest me greatly though so I am very tempted to pick it up which would lower my interest in a PS3 a great deal. Nippon Ichi might eventually come out with enough titles to make me want a PS3 (which is what happened with the PS2) but that likely won't happen for a while.
