haha, yea the internet rants will be glorious to read ;)

I've participated in the coordinated DDoS (simply trying to log in) on Blizzards servers at the Diablo3 launch together with my pals and we had a lot of fun, we even got to play a bit at like 2:30 am :) .

I always have to shake my head when this happens! "We didn't expect such a high demand" "Overwhelmed by so many customers" to talk your ass out of "damn, we didn't get our tech together. Again". I mean really, buy yourself more bandwidth from CDNs, rent a few more servers, rent a few cloudservers from Amazon... I remember the WiiU-launch and the update. I just had to lol.

I heard the Saturn didnt sell because Sega blindsided consumers with the launch trying to beat the original Playstation to the market. Everyone was surprised by it and not financially prepared for the console. The market was confused beyond repair.

No the reasons were different back then. Sega was in competition only with Nintendo before and Sony rushed into the market with a lot of money - more than you would imagine for a rather small market back then. Sega did some last-minute changes to Saturn (yes, dam similarities :D) but had the inferior 3d-hardware and were also more expensive (again, dam sim... you get it?) but the main reason was especially marketing.

Playstation was *everywhere* in Europe. TV-ads, magazines, events, formula1-races... Everywhere Playstation. Sega had absolutely no chance to market their system in an equal way and so the money won that generation. Once the Playstation established itself it was a very rich and nice generation, like I said before.

Hmmmm...interesting. I thought the cause of Sega freaking out though was because Sony revealed a much lower price point than both Nintendo and Sega for their consoles and they couldnt compete. When Sony revealed their stance and offerings, Sega blinsided everyone by launching months ahead of time and with limited consoles to boot. They pissed off consumers, retailers and developers who werent prepared to properly launch for them.

I guess its a little bit of both.

P.S.

Also, Sonys games were twenty dollars cheaper than Nintendos games.

OP - Say your prayers.

Cause Master Chief is coming for you

I might come for him :D Perhaps this time I will have more than one console hooked to TV because GF is gone :D

Congratz on the pre-order! You should get PS+ without a doubt. If you're wondering why, it's because the deal is gonna give you a lot of free games, meaning you spend less in the end.

Also, since you have missed out on the PS1 & PS2 you can get games from those 2 systems for a lot of discount or just for free when you're a member of Playstation Plus. It will also mean that you can play online and everything. So the investment is beyond worth it.

Sorry about the "GF is gone" part though :(

Yes, them damn modules Nintendo chose... Sorry, but idiots.

And IIRC Sony and SEGA launched mostly parallel in time but yes, the launch-games on PSX were better. And of course PSX was cheaper may be a point for customers but they managed by advertising that everyone spoke about Playstation. It could've been more expensive and still Saturn wouldn't have a chance. Still the Saturn-pad was one of the best (if not the ultimate one) for 2d-fighting-games and many games like Virtua Fighter 2 or Sega Rally were really impressive on this crappy hardware. I still have to play Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force 3 on emu, though.

You don't have to be sorry, I am happy :D

I only missed the hardware, though. I played *a lot* of PS-games until now. I am "only" missing PS3 but with Gaikai perhaps this will change.

I will of course get ps+ without a doubt, like I do with XBLG. Did you preorder, too? Which games?

Will you go to Gamescom this weekend since you live Germany? If I could I would have been there this weekend however I have other stuff to do. But my experience I had 2 years ago was really neat. Me and my friends taking the train to Köln from Brussels at 5 in the morning, placing our caminggear at the Gamescom camp to see a huge line at 9 o'clock. Didn't knew that so many people would go :p thankfully we had early-bird pre-order tickets so we could skip the line for an amazing day.

Believe me, no sane person would go there on weekend! I could've gone there via a technician pass to avoid the queues today but we have too much work to do for Gamescom.

No offense to the youth here but I don't want to stand in a line with 15-yr-olds - I want to go there, look for boothchicks and enjoy new games and consoles but there are so many visitors and loud people I have to say "no!".

Next year I will take this day free once I know when Gamescom will be, perhaps attend to some meetings ;) Also I heard somewhere you can't buy beer at Gamescom this year?! This is a show-stopper for me!

lol people are gonna think i'm a bad fan, but i haven't preordered yet! I'm waiting to play Dark Souls 2 on the PS3 as the first game still takes up a lot of my time, so if i get a PS4, it's gonna just sit there for a good while. So i'm hoping in a couple of months for now, maybe TGS, that From Software will announce the game's arrival to the nextgen systems, so i can just buy the PS4 version and the console with it right away :S.

The launch games that i will be getting regardless of when, are Killzone and Driveclub. Maybe Watchdogs too. Plus some of the indie ones, but i always wait for a review on indie games.

I give you that, it was crowded as hell but still the Sony area with then Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Payday, Starhawk and a couple of other games were 18+ (only allowed with ID) and therefore not that crowded. I played every game a couple rounds before leaving. I didn't bother trying BF3 of MW3 not until the early evening. Gamescom camp was fun as well where a couple guys connected a N64 to a beamer and everyone was playing Mario Kart late in the evening :p
