Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have announced Fable Legends for Xbox One at its Gamescom showcase in Cologne.

The game was announced by director David Eckelberry, and although it's not Fable 4, it's a fully-fledged entry in the series. Set during Albion's age of heroes, 400 years before the events of the first Fable, it casts you as one of a number of different heroes - and your friends as three more.

It's designed for four-player co-op. Each hero has different skills: on-stage, Lionhead showed a Prince Charming-alike who's nimble with a sword, an archer whom you play from a third-person-shooter viewpoint, a female barbarian sort with a Yorkshire accent, a magic user whose spells slow enemies to a standstill. Here's the kicker, though: there's another player, who controls the villain, viewing the map from a top-down perspective and placing enemies, traps, ambushes and more for the four heroes to overcome.

Fable Legends makes full use of the Xbox One's cloud capabilities, and so will only be playable online. There was no release year given, but it's definitely not a launch game.

i would like to get this game when i get an xbo. seeing how they didnt have a release date on it who knows when it could be out.

Multiple heroes, choice between heroes / villains... Could be an mmo. Now let's hope it's on PC too, because I really did like the Fable games on the 360.

Sounds pretty cool. Wonder if it is the MMO that has been rumored for some time now.

No gameplay but this premise of this is more interesting than all the Fable games combined. Molyneux is gone so the hopefully things change for the better. A cinematic will not sway me to Fable.

I heard the MMO is free and from a third party.
