Forums - Gaming Discussion - So, even Nintendo thinks Wii is a Gamecube in a new suit!

"Zero to little" more power than the gamecube? Have you even bothered to look at the wii's hardware specs or play any of its higher end games?

Around the Network

I see it more as a bonus. Obviously you can choose between the controllers (if it's not a fake picture, of course)

No iFlower7, being able to choose your controller isn't a bonus, its proof the Wii is the Gamecube. Thank god Mario Kart came along or else this dark truth may have gone unknown. Wii gamers have been duped, you've been forced to buy a Gamecube twice, how could Nintendo have done this to us. I bet the Wii isn't even as powerful as the 360 or PS3. Call it a gut instict but I'm sure someday we'll have proof of that too.

You'll cut costs way more than you cut revenue, and thus increase profit.

So this leaves me with the question: If Wii has (zero to little) more power than the Gamecube, and the controller is the innovative part (which i digg, don't forget that) why support the Gamecube-controller. Then they just could've stick with the Gamecube... But this time around, we have a good looking Gamecube with online and that's actually selling well! But c'mon Nintendo; If the graphics are the same as last gen and i have to keep playing it with a Gamecube controller i might as well just stick with me old Cube...

1) The Wii is about twice as powerful as the Gamecube.

2) The Gamecube controller is supported to satisfy the waggle haters.

3) The Gamecube is dead, that's why Nintendo isn't anymore making games for it.

4) The graphics aren't the same as last gen.

5) You don't have to play it with a Gamecube controller, the Wiimote is supported as well.

6) This Mario Kart won't be released for the Gamecube.

7) This thread fails, because you haven't done your research before you started a pointless rant.

8) Cake tastes good.

9) Chocolate is even better.

10) I am hungry.

Neither have you ... as far as I remember there are no official Wii technical specs. so you 2x powerfull point is inexistent from the start ... yes the Wii is more powerfull than the GC ( MP3 , SMG , SSBB prooves this ) but whit how much nobody could tell ...

Why did people start to say that the Wii is two Gamecubes duct taped together?

Coz it are some retarded fanboys?

Sony have been using the same tired old controller for years.

Some people prefer to use a gamecube controller for reitterations of franchises that they learned to play with a classic remote.

Remember, control options are GOOD for games. They drive up review scores.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Only one company knows the real technical spec of the Wii I suppose. That company (Nintendo) mentioned way back when that it was roughly twice as powerful as the Gamecube. I could try to dig up the quote but it came from before the name was even announced.

This argument is like saying PS3 or 360 are nothing different from their predecessors simply because the controllers are pretty much the same.

The Wii has had Classic controllers available for VC and various Wii games since day 1...the GC controller has become another option because people obviously like the controller.

Look at SMG, MP3, Brawl, etc, and tell me with a straight face that the Gamecube could do that...it can't. Also Wii DVDs are much bigger than GC discs...online capabilities, some flash memory, plenty more...people need to go back to Gamecube and see how much better the Wii is.

Here's a Melee/Brawl comparison...in case you forgot how much weaker the Gamecube typically was:

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

This, my folks, is a picture from the online component of Mario Kart Wii.

Green A-button and red B-button (see arrows) suggests that Mario Kart Wii uses the Gamecube-controller. For the Wii version has white A and B buttons.

I'm not hating on Nintendo right now but they are the ones who should actually make sure their controller works in their games and not make it a Gamecube 1.5 game with online. Give the good example Nintendo!

You made a lot of mistakes in a short amount of time. Rol basically already hit them, but...

  • The Wii is definitely at least 2x more powerful than the GameCube. Though Nintendo has never come out and stated anything to prove said claim, we can get enough information from developers, and others who have taken a look at what's inside the little white box. Also, being 2x more powerful than the GameCube means it's roughly 1.3x more powerful than the original Xbox, because the Xbox was roughly 1.5 times more powerful than the GameCube. The GameCube was roughly 1.5 times more powerful than the PS2, using basic specs like CPU speed, GPU speed, RAM, etc (which of course are not the only measurements of a systems cababilities)
  • Why is it so bad to support a controller? The Wii can easiler play GC games, because it has the memory card slots and GC controller ports on it already, giving it really easy BC, and if people have the GC controllers, why not allow them to use them if they so wish? At least those GC controllers won't go to waste.
  • I don't think we're just scratching the surface of the graphical department, even with Nintendo games. There's always room for improvement.
  • And like llewdebkram said, Sony has been using (basically) the same controller since the PS1. God forbid if Nintendo doesn't support it's GC controller.
