Forums - Gaming Discussion - Saints Row inching closer to GTA in quality? - SRIV = 86 on Metacritic!

I love the Saints Row series because it's the exact opposite of GTA in that it doesn't take itself serious and the whole purpose of the game is to have fun while doing ridiculous things.

lol, GTA taking itself seriously...ok buddy. SR is a very fun series but GTA is AAA quality and breaching new grounds. SR is a copy of GTA III, VC and San Andreas but with a worse storyline and different activities. SR would never exist without GTA's popularity. Alot of people didn't like GTA4 due to Rockstar expanding its roots and not going all out whack like San Andreas. Rockstar created a living breathing world and always release AAA quality content and always will. SR has the fun factor but thats about it, its depth stops there.

SR3 was good, but I had a lot more fun playing GTA4 multiplayer with my cousins.

SR3's texture swapping was just annoying. The city didn't feel no where near as lively as GTA.

I know next-gen systems will solve these issues.

From the looks of it, GTA5 will be a leap above SR4 as well.

Yes, inches. Like a slug crawling across the patio.

Saints Row is increasing in quality, it's unlikely that it will catch GTA though, even if we go by MC it's still very far away (86 Vs. 98).

ACE: I'm pretty sure having depth is what SR is trying to shy away from. That's what a lot of people think "doomed" GTAIV because they focused a little too much on a deep story.

SR goes for the throat with it's outlandish action and silliness. It may have been a clone before but after SR3 every major gaming site agreed it was it's own game now.

I'm actually said they're going to take a break from SR for a while to reevaluate what they're going to do with the franchise. I liked what they were doing with it and I don't want it to change.

In case you didn't know, I have a comic book called Guardians. I'm the writer/creator of it, and we have four issues out right now, with our fifth coming out soon!

We're also doing a Patreon right now for the comic, and I'd appreciate any and all help in getting it funded. If 56 people pledged $3 per issue, we'll be funded

Very deserving.

Really enjoyed SR The Third
- got the 2nd game recently and will get the 4th in the future.

Shame that the first one is Xbox360 exclusive and not on PC T_T.

I guess this is as good a time as any to ask why.

I picked it up in the Christmas sale and just got around to trying it, and I thought that after a pretty awesome opening couple of levels it very quickly descended into a drudge of boring gang missions involving driving around town and shooting people.

But it's supposed to be this amazing, over-the-top zany experience. So do other people have very low standards for that, or do I have to force myself through a bit more drudgery before I get to the good bit?

It's my first SR game for what it's worth, and also my last unless it picks up soon.

More OT: Saints Row may well be inching ahead, but GTA5 is looking to be such an enormous improvement over earlier games that I don't think SR can be said to be "inching closer" at all.

keep playing it, it gets a lot better, and play it with a friend.

No game should ever shy away from depth, depth is what keeps people coming back to their franchise leading to maintained or better sales. Depth isn't just about storyline, it has to do with the whole perspective of the game, it has to do with the formula and what drives your game to be what it is. SR is a pick up and play fun style of game. GTA is a pick up and play fun style of game and soooooo much more. That's what I mean by depth. GTA4 was considered a hickup and it still got played and loved by over 20 million people and is still played by millions due to its depth.

I've always enjoyed playing SR 1 and 2, they were just so much fun. It was fun doing all the activities and helping random mom's deliver drugs, lol. I know its a whack game franchise and now has its own identity and will eventually get to SR3 and 4, but GTA is just legendary.

I don't get , are you people really prefer SR 3 over GTA IV !!!!
well , for me GTA IV >>>>>>>>>>>>>> SR3 + SR2
I mean the difference between them is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge in term of quality .

You know that the metacritic score highly depends from the marketing budget of editors right ?

I'll wait for user scores.

In terms of quality this is completely true. Just like the budget of GTA IV probably being the same as the budgets of SR2, 3 and 4 combined and then a bit more.

But in terms of fun, simple and ridiculous fun, SR2 and SR3 were miles ahead of the drama that was GTA IV.

Please excuse my bad English.
