I didn't like SR3. Everything about it from the shooting to the driving felt second rate. With that said, I appreciate the fact that the Saints Row franchise is making an effort to distinguish itself from GTA. SR4 actually looks more appealing to me because its more like an open world superhero game than an open world crime game.

I almost feel sorry for this game though. Who had the bright idea to release it 2 weeks before GTA V?

wait what? GTA V is coming out in two weeks?

Okay I got my dates wrong. Its more like a month seperating the two... still way too close to each other.

ehh.....that's far enough for them to be ok. If it was two weeks that'd be insane.

SR3 IS leaps and bounds better than that boringfest GTA IV, I have a feeling V is going to be also the same so hyper yet boring.

I love the Saints Row series because it's the exact opposite of GTA in that it doesn't take itself serious and the whole purpose of the game is to have fun while doing ridiculous things.

I guess this is as good a time as any to ask why.

I picked it up in the Christmas sale and just got around to trying it, and I thought that after a pretty awesome opening couple of levels it very quickly descended into a drudge of boring gang missions involving driving around town and shooting people.

But it's supposed to be this amazing, over-the-top zany experience. So do other people have very low standards for that, or do I have to force myself through a bit more drudgery before I get to the good bit?

It's my first SR game for what it's worth, and also my last unless it picks up soon.

More OT: Saints Row may well be inching ahead, but GTA5 is looking to be such an enormous improvement over earlier games that I don't think SR can be said to be "inching closer" at all.

I guess zaniness is relative Kantor. SR3 was my first Saint Row game as well and I couldn't believe that ANY game would do the stuff they did in that. Just to name a few

-Skydiving Point Break style and killing guys in midair
-Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax
-Crushing your enemy with a giant rock ball
-Killing luchadores with chainsaws
-Being recruited by Burt Reynolds to kill zombies

And on and on. It was just so over the top it worked, and I really loved it because of that.

No just no.SR3 was garbage imo and 4 looks the same.The best in the series was 2.

Yeah Tiger Escort was hilarious! That and Insurance Fraud were really fun, oh and Genki too.

SR4 uses the same engine and style of SR3 so technically it's not much of an improvement outside of new weapons and superpowers. Again I haven't played it but apparently people like it.

Still would that over GTA any day of the week.
