It's difficult to be sure, but i suspect the Sony - Microsoft market shrank already shrank compared to last generation. An increase in failure rate and multiple console owners seem to be have taken place.

Same for PS2 and the disc drive problems.

It doesn't matter if there are dual owners, as long as hardware and software rises that's all that matters (and it has/will).

Let's say you don't add like that.  How can you call MS's fanbase "shrinking"?  YOu can make the argument for Sony after the last generation, sure, but I find it hard to agree with the idea that MS's is shrinking as well.  

Because 25 million people bought PS2's in Japan. Then only 10 million with the PS3 and it has only one million seller.

Consumers keep shifting without any retention. The fanbase itself is small and the rest are bandwagoners.

That means it's dropping in Japan, and rising everywhere else then.

I'm curious about the bandwagoners bit.  So you're saying that most of the people that buy MS and Sony consoles are not part of the fanbase but are instead just following the crowd?  How exactly d you make the differentiation?
