I think the question here has some flawed assumptions. I know that modern medicine can't do everything, but I also think there's no such thing as an "incurable disease." If I'm going to die of a disease we don't know how to fix and there's nothing I can do about it, I want the right to sign a waiver and be put on experimental treatments a lot more than a right to turn the morphine drip all the way up and gallop off into la la land.

And here in the US, experimental treatments are not unheard of, but they often take a politician stepping in to make it legal.

Assisted suicide does nobody any good. Experimental treatments at least have a potential of doing otherwise, for others if not myself. You can argue that both should be a right, but I think that experimental treatment should be the preferred option because at least it does something constructive with a bad situation.

By "incurable" disease i mean a disease currently has no cure and is unlikely to get one for sometime. For the unlucky person who gets such a disease which they know will likely ruin their quality of life to such a point the person no longer wants to live, the promise of a cure to them is pointless. A cure could come anytime and for most people they can't wait for something that to them just ain't happening.

Also, i think you are wrong to say assisted suicide does no good especially when you are willing to talk about experiments. What if the experiment makes that person worse than before, would you still deny them their right of death? If a person wants to die, no one in authority has the right to stop them. Only family and friends can persuade them to not want to die. Also, an experiment on people needs their consent before going ahead. Finally, i guess death is an easy way out but if they have no hope at all. I completely understand them.
