yes. In  it's  first  year... Why do you think theres still new updates coming every month. After all, they charge for everything inside of it. And people get hooked on those sim like games.

Holy shit if that's true.

Yeah...I honestly had no idea it was still going and if anyone bothered with it.

Okay, I'm just going to call my self out. And say no.. But it's is very profitable. Maybe i was drunk that night a few years ago. But i can't seem to find numbers any where. Only 17=20 million users, 5000 items and counting 200+ plus games.

The entertainment division seems to do well and Sony seems to be profitable again so they don't need the money from selling a stake in the entertainment division. However Daniel Loeb is right that they need to increase the performance of that division. They can't afford to have so many movie flops. They had 2 big flops last quarter and now Smurfs 2 is performing below their expectations.

They've had plenty of successes lately. Skyfall made over a milion, Grown Ups 2 is a huge hit, Smurfs may be underperforming in the US but it's doing well overseas and should make a profit. Spidey 2 will do great, as will Bond 24. Sony Pictures is fine, every studio has a few flops here and there.

Exactly.  And while White House Down is a minor flop, After Earth is far away from being a flop.  It didn't do too well in the States, but WW it has made 110M+ more than it cost to produce the film. More importantly, Sony Studios has been in the Top 5 highest grossing movie studios every year since 2002.  In those 10 years, they took the top spot 4 times (2002, 2004, 2006, 2012.)

I don't usually agree with George Clooney, but he is right on this one.  Loeb is just trying to spread fear to minipulate the market, just so he can make a quick, dirty buck if studios do sell off part of their business.

Good, I like things just the way they are atm.

After Earth I think still is a flop. Even though it made more money than its budget, the budget doesn't include marketing costs. For example, John Carter also made more money than its budget, however Disney said they lost $200 million on the movie.

But yeah Sony pictures has some very profitable movies and they just need to be more careful with giving movies high budgets. Sony isn't exactly the most financially healthy company, so its much worse for them having flops.

Potential is there for more money. Selling you stand still. The gaming division makes sense to sale because they lost more money than they put into it(ps3).Sony doesn't need the gaming division but more importantly they don't consoles. But will that change with ps4? Maybe. But I doubt it will be big enough to justify.

I disagree, Sony needs the gaming division.  It was during the PS2 and I think PS1 their most valuable asset.  I'm pretty sure that was also while the rest of Sony was actually doing great.  While they haven't made much money with the PS3, it was really just one "failure", not something they can't turn around.  It seems that with the PS4 it will be a big turn around, I believe they said they are not going to lose money day 1 on the PS4.

Not disagreing about turn around. But the question is will the games by Sony on the console will make a profit. Sony problem will be getting that money back for next quarter. Let's be honest kill zone isn't going to sell 2 million in 3 months. Knack probably not even a million. 3rd party will be fine because multiple consoles/PC. I wondering how they will profit next quarter.

Sony will surely turn profit since the people who deserved should get that and Sony did try to risk a lot for Gamers with technolony and games with first party so they are deseved to be successful for the sake of gaming and their passion with it. If you want someone to be unsuccessful then its Microsoft who did not even put a little risk to for gaming and always they foucused on making more money.

Also I see many people now considering sony service like PS+ and purchasing games more than before in my circle who are not wealthy, so I'm confidene that PS4 will be the Sony new era to begin just like PS1/2 and dominate in gaming and other services like Audio/Video in one place with more Value for less money and great quality.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Sounds like they want to leverage the PS4 somehow to become the new Apple. I could be reading it wrong though,

How did you understand that?

This bit:

"We are also encouraged by the positive feedback from the announcement of the PlayStation 4, which is highly integrated with our leading networks and mobile businesses," Hirai wrote. "We are investing in Mobile, Imaging and Game, and these business units are inextricably linked to our One Sony strategy."

Like I said though, I could have misread their intentions.

But what do you mean by "become the new apple"?
