Doubt it would've helped too much, to be honest. Besides, jacking in more power would've missed half the point of the console.

Yeah, it would have sold so much more and could have overtaken the PS2 as the best selling console. It would have also hurt the 360 and PS3 more.

No simply because Nintendo can't afford to sell hardware at a significant loss.

Microsoft can and to Some degree Sony can as other divisions in the company usually keep the companies a float whilst the initial period of consoles are sold at a significant loss.

Nintendo on the other had all they do is games. If they were to sell a console at a $100-$200 loss then their profits (especially form the GCN and Gameboy area, would have dwindled away real quick and if the Wii failed then Nintendo probably wouldn't have been around no more.

why do you guys think 3rd party support would've been better? the GameCube was a shit ton more powerful than the PS2, but did it have 3rd party support? no

I think the GameCube situation was more to do with how much the PS2 beat it by :/ Most developers likely didn’t think it was worth the time or resources to bother porting it over.

Had the Wii been in line with the PS360, its ports would have been able to compete with the competition and thus retain a portion of the market. The problem was few gamers would willingly pick the version with the least appealing visuals, so the Wii never managed to compete in those situations.

I don't personally think it would have actually helped the Wii all that much, since its cheap price was likely one of the factors that helped it in the first place, but I can understand people’s logic.

yep, they would have all the stuff that would have made Wii popular motion, all those dance party hell probably less shovelware, PLUS it would have gotten alot of the games that the HDs got that the system couldnt handle or at the very least their versions would not have sucked so bad

No, the main selling point was cheap hardware and casual party games.

Nintendo was not in a position to lose money like MS and Sony. If they took that kind of financial hit for as long as their competitors they would be out of business instead of having a good buffer of cash in the bank, so no, obviously not.

No. The Wii bombed in the last two years of its lifetime because Nintendo dropped it like a stone. It's been weaker than the PS360 for its entire lifetime, as long as Nintendo gave it proper 1st party support it did fine.

Nope. Nintendo succeeds or fails on their own merits.

You're philosophy concludes that Nintendo needs 3rd parties to be successful, however, history has proven time and time it again that when Nintendo caters to 3rd parties they fail or at least don't make nearly as much money.

I love 3rd party games and continuously have argued that Nintendo has to make moves to get their games on Nintendo hardware so they can pwn the competition, however, even when Nintendo does attempt to do what it can for 3rd parties, it still fails and they lost games there is legitimately no reason for Nintendo not to have.

So I've given up on that argument and focused on the only constant. If Nintendo makes quality games that are clearly "Nintendo" games, they will succeed and I'll still be happy either way. I just may need to pick up another console at some point to play other games I want too. That or upgrade my PC.

I only asked the question and never gave an opinion for or against the original Wii matching the Xbox 360 in terms of power.  My opinion is like the current poll result, a 50/50 split between thinking its in some ways it would be good idea and in others ways a bad idea.
