Forums - General Discussion - oh man im so screwed...i have to serve

No not in the army federal reserve, something much more worse than that. ehh...Does anyone know how to get out of jury duty......? Yea laugh it up, its going to hit you someday too. I've heard my fare share of terrible stories from teachers and students alike, of thier jury duty experiences and theres no way im going through that hell.

If you don't know what jury duty is, well you know those guys in the large box who get to choose if the person is guilty or not guilty, yea you get to be that person. Sound cool right? WRONGE. Imagine sitting in a room with 10 other people with no windows, no internet, no cellphones, no ipod, no connection to the outside world, and all you do is sit in that blank room and debate for hours and hours, maybe days and weeks. And you can't leave until everyone has the same answer, meaning if one person thinks the defendant is guilty and everyone else thinks hes not guilty, then noone can leave.

I got the letter today and I have to serve a week from now which is also convieniently the same day I take my college politics exam. Yay "F"......

lol, The only good thing that can come out of this is me randomly yelling "OBJECTION" like a total a-hole every now and then.

Judge "Please state your name..."

Defendant "Hello, my name is Timmothy Gonz.."

Me "OBJECTION!"

Defendant "....wh..what?"

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Hate everything. If they ask questions like "has anyone in your family ever drunk driving, jail, ???", whatever it is your Dad did it.

Not much you can do.

But...uh...that is weird that you're a student though...I'd assume you'd be able to get out of it...I'd try.

Oh, and "TAKE THAT!"

There is no easy way out. It doesn't matter who you are, you have to serve unless the judge or a lawyer decides it is best for you to serve some other time.

One way to get out is to give the lawyers a reason to dismiss you. For example, I was recently called to serve a case where the 4 men being charged were all black, and had written rap that was quite derogatory, about drugs, and generally filled with subjects/words looked down on by society. One of the questions that the defense lawyer asked was if the juror being questioned disliked rap. The guy gave an answer along the lines of he thinks its evil and the lawyer throws him out.

Of course, lying in court isn't a good idea either

lol no, and if I ignore it, they will send a cop to my house with a arrest warrant. o_0

@josenieves

yes, if your 18+ years old and no longer go to highschool.

@nordlead

i think thats what my dad did to get out, ill try that if nothig else works lol. But the thing is, if they realize that your just saying that to get out of jury duty, then you have to serve an additional timing and you get charged with a fine or jail time. No anal rape for me.....

Fall asleep when the judge is reading the instructions. When he goes around and asks if you understood them tell him you missed hearing them. You will be excused quickly.
