People are all hoping that FFXV is going to be the savior of FF.

Can already see it's going to disappoint.

The same people/critics who hated FFXIII will complain about how FFXV should of been like FFXIII. Just like the ones who complained about FFXII started loving XII when XIII came out....and so forth.

Just like what happens with each Zelda installation.

I tried.  Just couldn't enjoy it.  10, 11, 12, and 13.  10-2 with the ridiculously bad storyline though?  Amazing.  Gameplay alone saves FF10-2.

the article is obviously talking from a quality standpoint and not a sales standpoint. from a sales perspective it will continue to sell based on brand name but if things keep going as they are it wont stay that way is what hes trying to get at.

Mass Effect Did the boobs(and butt) thing too, they just weren't silly and talked about it. As for Final Fantasy Being dead... whatever.

Generally speaking,  Mario and Pokemon and other franchises have had their peaks and valleys.

JRPG's  on console are in trouble (they're are still plenty of good ones). But you simply can't create a JRPG with next gen assets if they're gonna sell <1 million. Which aside from FF, Dark Soul's, Pokemon, DQ. They do. Xenoblade while amazing (and my favorite JRPG this gen), was created with essentially last gen assetts and graphic engine.

Guys, it doesn't matter that it still sells millions when the games are becoming more and more irrelevant, content and impact wise. Like the article says, the current game are living off the legacy and that will dry up eventually. And with stuff like All the Bravest, the drying up will only be accelerated further.

Here's to hoping FF15 becomes a very good game and FF16 is done by either Kitase or Ito.

Final Fantasy is not a dead series. It's a struggling series.

Perfect Dark is dead.
Legend of Dragoon is dead.
Parasite Eve is dead.
Chrono is dead.

What do these have in common? We aren't going to see another game in any of these franchises. EVER. There is no chance for any of these series to financially redeem themselves. And for most of these, that's a real shame.

Really, Final Fantasy isn't even the worst offender with the game series that keeps being horrible. XIII had a few faults--OK, it had a lot of faults. Even someone like me who likes XIII admits that--but it basically failed because it tried to do a great thing and failed. I'll chastise Square Enix for failing, but I have a hard time being upset about it because they clearly tried very, very hard.

That, and XIII-2 did show that Square Enix is willing to learn and improve where they can.

Resident Evil, on the other hand, is the fecal sandwich stuck in the toilet's U-bend, stinking up the house. My thoughts immediately after finishing RE4 were "That was a great game" and "I know I never want to play a Resident Evil game ever again. I can't put my finger on why, but I feel like this series is about to go downhill in a big way." And yet somehow it still sells.

In this man's opinion, the FF series hasn't been good since the SNES days. I'll give FFIX some credit, it was actually pretty solid, and coincidentally, Sakaguchi was involved with that one. But otherwise, I really haven't cared for the main series since FFVI.

Nope. If FFXV is anything to go by, it's about to make its comeback.

I tend to agree with you OP. I think the OP means the franchise is creatively bankrupt (or dead) but sales are still strong because of brand equity. If it didn't have the past pedigree they wouldn't move even 100,000 units. Same thing with Resident Evil, it's pretty much dead to me but I still keep playing it because of fan feelings for the roots.

Im with you on the creatively bankrupt part, but IMHO; and dont take this the wrong way; you are part of the problem, if you keep buying the subpar crap it sends the message to SE that its ok to make subpar crap.

Do people even realize that the E3 trailer was all CG that was dressed like gameplay?

Was all target render. 12 seconds of that was real-time (GAF source)
