That's just not true. I'd say making a thread and heavily defending your opinion is even worse. You already told your opinion in the OP, no need to constantly defend it. You don't have to reply to every comment, hell you don't have to reply to ANY comment at all. A thread creator is responsible for creating a topic for discussion and that's about it.
I do agree that if you have a problem with the OP you shouldn't be posting in the thread at all. Comments like "Another Username345 Thread" aren't necessary and you're better off ignoring the thread completely.
Here are the types of threads I myself avoid:
-How long will it take for game x to outsell game y
-Will game Z outsell games A-L on Platform Y combined?
-Threads Complaining about Negativity
-Threads with whiny titles
-Normally, threads like this one.
