Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ports that didnt need to be made or Pointless Ports

Was Soul Calibur Broken Destiny a port?  I thought it was an original title.

Some good choices in the OP though.  Paritcularly Dead Rising (I bought it myself and returned it.  Terrible) & Split/Second.  And MGS 3 for 3DS never made a lick of sense to me either.

Anyway, if I'm being objective my choices would be things like:

RTS' just don't work on consoles, and I can only speak from personal experience with Populous but the game is clearly far too ambitious to be running on the PS1.  Takes up a whole memory card to save; is missing features and runs at an atrocious framerate in the later levels.

But, I'm not going to be objective.  Populous is literally the game that made me discover Bullfrog Productions, which made me look up multiple other titles they've made and at the end of the day would lead to me calling them my favourite game developer of all time.  So something good came from the porting :P

Same deal with Command & Conquer on PS1; got me into the series, even if it was terrible to control on consoles.

Sniper Elite V2 for Wii U. It's missing essentially everything besides the story mode.

Great list!

Can I go old school?

StarCraft on the Nintendo 64, I cannot imagine how someone can properly play the game using a traditional controller.

thanks and sure you can, holy crap i forgot that game was on n64, i didnt even know anybody actually played it.

Matter of fact if we're talking N64, pratically any late port that came out for that system, dont know why RE2 came out almost 2 years later on that system

Actually, RE2 was pretty good on the N64, some of the in game graphics were better and it had more then a few extras, even if the cinemas weren't exactly converted cleanly in some instances. Heck, most of the later RE2 ports I hear are based on the N64 version, but speaking of those... yeah EVERY cheap RE port that landed on the GC after the great remake of the first game was unnecessary.

I will also throw out...

- the gimped Street Fighter Alpha 2 they put on the SNES after the N64 already released

- Nintendo porting over Fatal Frame/Project Zero 2 onto the Wii in 2012

- Dead Rising: Chopped till you drop, I know it was mentioned before but I can't STRESS how horrible this port was, especially given Capcom just ported over RE4 with better graphics based on the GC game with the PS2 extras. If they weren't even going to try to make it look better then a launch PS2 game why bother?

But late ports to new systems appears to be something Japanese publishers and EA REALLY like given what I've seen these past few years.

thats not a fair comparison. RE4 was a PS3/GC game. DR was a 360 game HUGE difference. So it was always going to look inferior

Oh so he is hating on it . Too bad he is missing on the vita . Anyway about Muramasa... Is it that pointless? It has nothing new? Because I always wanted to try it and if the Vita version has more extras I would of course buy the Vita version! (Whenever I get the chance to buy a Vita of course xD).

No More Heroes made me finally realize that some games are rated positively simply because the audience doesn't know any better. The game is sooooooooo bad, I was shocked at how highly the original Wii version was rated after playing the demo.

At the time of release, the style and story were enough to carry the game. Sadly as the sequel's performance (which plays a bit better) would show, you can't live on that forever... at least when it comes to Wii games.

I think it had more to do with it being exclusive than anything else. I bet my bottom dollar had the game been multiplat from the beginning nobody would have cared. Ive noticed with Wii titles alot of the exclusives get hyped to high hell and some of them just arent that great. The fact that the sequel didnt do as good just proves to me it wasnt worth that much anyway. despite 2 being a better game.  Epic Mickey, Red Steel, Conduit, Madworld are all games that IMHO werent all that and got hyped to hell and either underperform or the sequels did much worst.

pointless doenst really mean bad. Udraw for HDs was a good port just a non needed one for example. And their are some ports that are bad but arent really pointless(COD MW for Wii). I played Muramasa for Wii a long time ago. But if you are going to get a Vita anyway might as well get the best version of the game you can get, so yeah go for it.

Awesome then if I get one I'll be sure to make it one of my first purchases xD!

This would be a lot funnier if it didn't have malicious intent.

I think MGS3 for the 3DS was a little bit pointless, considering they were developing the HD collection at the same time, which was better and came with 2 (or 1 for the Vita) extra games for roughly the same price.

Can't really think of many others. Will edit my post if I do.

Soul Calibur BD was really just a poor man's SC4, only reason to get it is if you were a HUGE SC fan, to the point its unhealthy or you...are kind of poor and only have a PSP.

Someone mentioned SC64 and i think Populous is on the US PS store i was actually going to check it out but heard bad things about the PS version
