Forums - Microsoft Discussion - DF: In Theory: Can Xbox One multi-platform games compete with PlayStation 4?

Bet he shed a tear when he hit submit on that article.

The reality is that most games will be made for the lowest common denominator. They might be optimized up somewhat after that but the differences will probably be minor. A lot of the differences places like Digital Foundry talk about in current gen games, I can't even see myself or wouldn't notice without a side-by-side comparison.

The part about the GPU compute is probably the key. We aren't likely to see PS4 games that are beyond what the XO can handle until very late in the generation and then only from Sony first-party games. Even then, the average person probably won't be able to say that it's remarkably better than Halo 6 (or whatever). Only a few studios, like Guerrilla, ever did anything amazing with the PS3 SPUs.

No, they cannot.

Ex Graphics Whore.

The article also makes clear that even nowadays PC-games at 1080p and max settings are too much for nextgen to handle which is no problem for me but the topic was in another thread a few days ago.

It doesn't at all, they were running at 1080p ultra with no optimisation

Anyway, there is about 20% difference between them on average (I read the article earlier, so may be slightly wrong) which is fairly significant, but I don't think 3rd parties will really do much with this, but you would expect PS4 ports to have smoother framerates

Exactly. And this is what everyone has been saying.

Third party games we will probably see increased framerates or higher native res. Maybe some added effects, higher textures etc. It all depends on the dev.

First party games we should see a bigger improvement.

I still think people who say this is another PS3/360 coparison is completely off. With PS4/Xbone theres a ~20 - 50% gap in raw performance. Theres nothing MS can do about that really.

I said it already and will keep repeating it - just comparing the specs one by one and add up is totally wrong to judge the real-game performance.

How could anyone have judged real game performance without any games?

All discussions so far on the topic has been in thoery surely that is a given?

Wtf they used a 7850 to simulate the Xbox GPU? Err what?

"not to mention providing a highly playable Crysis 3 experience at the high preset with the best quality textures available. Bearing in mind that the absolute top-end settings challenge top-end tech like the GTX Titan, dropping down a single notch on the quality scale and still getting decent frame-rates at 1080p resolution isn't to be sniffed at."

this is pretty much the most important thing for me in the article. these machines are powerful and will provide great graphics and technological breakthroughs within games this coming gen

Wow, people is getting so much graphic whore nowadays...

Such a good times when the comparisson we did was:

- "Mario can kick the ass of Sonic, pretty easily"
- "No way, Sonic has quills in the back, so Mario can't jump on him"

Damn good old times.

TLOU looks AMAZING on a system with 512 megas of ram.
HALO 4 looks AMAZING on a system 7 years old. (Almost 8)

Sometimes i have the feeling of this graphical competition it's just a boost of ego to some dudes laking personality, who need to feel proud of a fucking electrical appliance.

what a stupid article

You can find the answer to the threads question just by the seeing the person who posted it. I always find that funny ^^
