Is the first year a failure? Yep, it sure is. Is the Wii U doomed to fail? I hope not. I have faith Ninty can turn it around. Edit. Whoops. double post.

It's ridiculous to judge a system a failure when it's only been on the market 9 months and pretty much all its big games are yet to launch.

It's not a failure no.

It's failing, yes, but that's a different thing.

Does success and failure always have to be defined in terms of sales/predictions about sales?

No, but on a website about sales it likely will be.

I appreciate that, but is it necessarily off-topic to post about thoughts and opinions?

Just concerned that if it all comes down to numbers, it doesn't leave so much to discuss. :(

I always enjoy reading the varied opinions on this board, more than the business stuff.

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

Karl Pilkington.

We don't know it's a failure till It's been on the market 3-4 years.
Also It's hard to know at It's price. Need to really see more games and a price point of $250 or less.

It's just that simple.

YesYes, we can call it a failure. It has failed so far. But... Albert Einstein supposedly got "F"'s in Math as a kid. But grew up to do things.

Failure is just a part of life. For the Wii U as well hopefully.

That's actually a myth.  Einstein never got an F in math and was actually top of his class.

I think the Wii U is a failure (especially compared to the Wii).  I do believe at the end of the generation it will have better games than the Wii had.  I also think it will end with respectable numbers and be profitable.  I think it's a good system.  Still, it's a complete failure on Nintendo's part that they let the lightning out of the bottle.

It depends on what your definition of a system failing is. If it's having no games, then yes, as of now it's a failure. But on August 4th, things are going to change. If it's the system being a bad piece of hardware, well personally I love my Wii U, but that's your opinion. If its that it's selling poorly, as of now you are correct, but again, that is all subject to change. We can't judge the Wii U until it actually has competition, because as of now, it's the only next-gen console on the market.

Isn't a failure something that is, in fact, failing?

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

It's too early to call imo.

Yes. But it's fun to be blissfully ignorant. (Or something like that.)
