You guys are always asking me to make a positive Wii U thread so here goes. One thing I am convinced about Wii U in a positive sense is this: the breakdown of software sales definitely skews more towards a more core styled gamer. Like if we look at the top ten selling Wii U games as provided by Nintendo (download + retail) we see:
http://www.justpushstart.com/2013/07/top-ten-best-selling-wii-u-games/
1 – New Super Luigi U
2 – New Super Mario Bros. U
3 – Super Mario World (eShop)
4 – LEGO City Undercover
5 – Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
6 – Mega Man X (eShop)
7 – TANK! TANK! TANK!
8 – Injustice: Gods Among Us
9 – Super Mario Bros. 2 (eShop)
10 – Trine 2: Director’s Cut (eShop)
You don't see things like Just Dance or Zumba Fitness or Carnival Games or a lot of the casualware/shovelware that would flood the Wii lists. Granted you don't see Call of Duty or Ass Creed either, but that's fine. It indicates the current Wii U userbase is much more core centric, just core on their own terms and good to see things like Trine 2 and Megaman X and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (2 months post launch) ranking relatively high.
Granted yes these individual sales maybe nothing all that significant, but still.
To me that's a positive. Even though the GameCube had a small userbase, it did have a relatively good attach ratio (10 per console I believe).
Now if you're Nintendo you don't want a GameCube sized userbase per se, but if you can bump that up to N64 levels (33-35 million) at least, and retain a similar attach ratio, that's not the worst thing in the world.
