Why did MS change everything on the ONE?

The bad press after E3. 78 31.08%

Low pre-orders. 142 56.57%

They planed this all alon... 19 7.57%

Other. Please explain. 12 4.78%

Total:251

I think they had a mutual agreement with Sony for them both to have DRM etc..

Sony know Microsoft like to share their features and when shit hit the fan Sony become the good guy of the industry.

So Microsoft back peddled to line up with Sony.

According to xbox fanboys, "haters" complained too much and the console is ahead of its time, we could not see the genius that was the "original" Xbox One.

Laughable, I know.

Laughable that you just made that up you mean.

Because money.
No sales = no money.
I was fine with their vision, but I was in the vast minority.

It's just that simple.

Microsoft completely underestimated Sony and they were taken by surprise. Sony had a much better console than anybody could imagine and on top of that they are even cheaper. With the original XBox, Microsoft didn't have a chance. I also think it wasn't planned to release the XBox in 2013. MS was still in the planning phase, they didn't know themselves, what the console will look like exactly. Hell, even to this very day, they are making changes every day.

Microsoft just learned a lessen that Sony taught Nintendo already in the 90s:

Do not underestimate the power of playstation.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

very simple, because at first they thought their successful X360 loyal fans will follow whatever they make for the XBO but too bad they are wrong... that's all

sadly he didnt, i seen people say such things, while being 100% serious

The $$$ talked. Low preorders ultimately led them to make the reversals.

Low pre-order numbers, even though it was a stupid reason.

Kinect gamers, TV watchers, and multitasking lovers (casuals per-say) are not the type of people that pre-order months before a product's ad campaign is even kicked off. Microsoft wanted to try pulling a Wii yet at the last second chickened out. As a result they are playing catchup with Sony and will fail at least in the beginning.

My only problem was the blocking of used games everything else was fine. But I'm sure MS isn't the only one back tracking. (MS fans)

Actually MS did not block used games.  As I remember MS studios which would be the one setting the standard for games on the X1 stated they would allow users to Sell, Trade, Gift and share their digital games.  The problem was that MS would not tell publishers what they can do and if a publishers wanted to they could block their games from used sales.

The only problem with MS system is that they did not have everything lined up yet with how the whole thing would work, thus their message was muddled and incomplete.  The only real negative I saw was the 24 hour check.  I believe this was a concession to publishers for some of the things MS wanted to do but it all got mixed up.

I actually believed that what MS tried to do would have changed the industry.  Right now, digital games are not Sold, Traded Gifted or shared.  MS going down this route would have changed Steam policy and even Sony to do the same.  Since MS messed up the whole stragety and message, they had to drop everything in go back to the basics.

I believe MS just decided to start over, not talk about online or any of the things they mentioned since it only kept negative news circulating and they could not get any traction.  Now it seems they can trickle out their plan piece by piece to gain mindshare again before release to gain some momentum back
