Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Q1 Earnings July 31st (Results Inside - Profit)

Edit:

Nintendo has posted an operation loss of 5 Billion Yen (Approx. 50 million US.), but a net profit of 8.6 Billion Yen (Approx. 90 million U.S.) nonetheless due to abenomics.

Nintendo claims that the 3DS results were their main profit contributors but claims that the Wii U keeps hindering their profits.

Nintendo has shipped over 1.4 and .16 million hardware units for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U respectively.

Nintendo has shipped over 10 and 1 million software units for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U respectively.

For comparison, last year, Nintendo posted a net loss of 180 million US; however, Nintendo did not have the weaker yen that it has currently last year thus the comparison gives us limited detail on how the company is succeeding.

I have absolutely no idea, my fingers are crossed and I´m hoping for a stealth "Please understand, we had to buy Atlus, bitches!" announcement. ( )
But you seem to have covered the most important aspects of the first Q.
Good Job !

i hope so, all i know is they are taking more than $500 from me alone from August to Dec!

Pokemon will make them so much god damn money, so im not worried. This should be by far the worst Quarter then the next 3 will be massive, especially the third!

If this is also a loss, they need to start bringing individual game costs down. Miyamoto said Wii U games cost twice as much to make - that's not acceptable if they don't sell more for that investment. Lower the graphical quality to Wii level.

LOL, things like NSMBU and even DKC: TF are pretty close to that ... they look like Wii games in 720p.

You can't water down graphics much further.

3ds doing well, wii u not so much, hard to really say

3DS is probably fairly close to being flat year over year, but I believe they were still losing money on the 3DS this time last year, so that should be a fairly large difference in year to year financials.

Wii and DS continue to sell OK numbers in North America at least, that should be a fair bit of profit there too.

Wii U is a disaster obviously for now, but on the plus side, they aren't selling many so they probably aren't losing much per unit. They may be getting stung on having unsold inventory sitting in their warehouses though.

Then which games were Miyamoto talking about for the doubled costs? 3D World doesn't look better than Galaxy, same with SSB and Kart..

The worst case is those games did cost more, but their art style is so bland it looks bad anyway.

Pikmin 3 perhaps?

Still, Nintendo's games don't have monster budgets to begin with, so doubling the budget of something isn't neccessarily going to make one of their games unprofitable all of the sudden. Plus they charge $10 more on average for a Wii U title.

This is also why though I don't think Nintendo will ever have much interest in graphical fidelity much past what the Wii U already offers. Their next "console" is likely to be more of a mobile tablet that can wiressly send a video signal to a television if its within range, but sticks with about Wii U level graphics.

3DS games like Luigi's Mansion 2 or Kid Icarus Uprising probably cost double a lot of DS games in development cost too.
