Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Dynasty Warriors director: "Xbox One needs simultaneous Japan launch to be successful"

Yeah... Maybe if X1 released in November of this year it would make a very slight difference in sales for its lifetime, but unless MS pours a lot of resources into the Japan market its going to be a farts chance that it does considerably better than the X360 did. IF the features of X1, and undiscovered interesting Cloud Tech become a big draw for X1 world wide it would likely still only have a minor impact in Japan.

PS4 for the time being will be the go to high end console. If Samsung or Apple come out with a viable hard core gaming platform then that changes things, but Sony will outsell MS in Japan by a decent to wide margin even if X1 is killing world wide. X1 needs some heavy hitter exclusive titles/exclusive tech features to even make much of a dent. Thats just the reality it faces with what we know about the Japan brand/gaming preferences.

I say MS form 2-3 Japanese studios and put more effort in marketing X1 in the BRI(C) and Europe.
Japan already told them that they don't like them so I hope they don't waste much resources there and concentrate in UK,US,BRI(C) and the rest of Europe.
In 2008 MS pumped more JRPG than any console but they still didn't give them love.

No matter what Microsoft does, the Xbox will never be excepted in Japan. They can't do a thing

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Well if there is no software that appeals to Japanese gamers, then the launch will be an embarrassment again. If that takes until 2014, then it's better to wait.

Consoles are anyways almost meaningless in Japan nowadays, only handhelds and smartphones sell really good in Japan. And the Japan developers develop nowadays mainly handheld or iOS games, the best JRPGs or other japan games come for theDS, 3DS, PSP or Vita.

Even the PS3 got the whole generation almsot no good JRPGs. Ni no kuni is the only real good exclusive JRPG for PS3 and this in a 8 year lifespan till now. So Japan is almost dead for consoles.

It is for DS too, so it ain't exclusive; but Ps3 got some exclusive JRPGs too without counting Ni No Kuni.

Wasn't the 360 the first console of that gen to have a Monster Hunter?

Really, if things like that and the Mystwalker exclusives(which I'm sure were tremendously costly for Microsoft to afford) couldn't do it for them with a significantly cheaper console for more or less the same power with a whole year release lead (in fact, the 360 launched in Japan before it even did in the US or Europe), I don't think selling considerably weaker hardware for likely significantly more and no release lead will.

In fact, all the talk about this delayed release in Japan, or the idea it may not even launch in Japan points to very real possibility that their hopes and aggression level for the reason is tempered way down.

The 360 has already shown that, no matter how hard MS tries, japanese people simply won't buy their videogame consoles. I mean, the 360 had more and better JRPGs than the PS3 till 2008/2009, it was much cheaper, smaller and it still sold awfully. It even had Monster Hunter! So, based on what happened in the past, I respectfully disagree with this guy.

X1 can launch in Japan when planets are aligned, it won't change anything. The Japanese hate them for what they did with Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4.

Lol the hell? Who told you that?

Common sense. Someone forces you to shed dozens of thousands of yens in a console you don't want in order to play one or two games and later those games releases with more content on the system you wanted from the start. How do you feel?

hey who knows ?
MS might be trying some reversed psychology shit!!!
Like: "you know what??? Fuck you Japan!!! you are not that relevant anymore, so we'll release maybe someday if we have left over inventory elsewhere, cause you ain't buying anyway and you cost us more than you generate profit!!! order on US MS store if you want one!!!! Peace!!!"
hey could work, sometimes scarcity of an internationally demanded product can hike sales on the grey market... MOUHAHAHAhahaha
