Forums - General Discussion - UK: Online porn to be blocked by default

I approve. Kids these days have already seen porn. KIDS. It's a shame how easy this is to access. I have cousins who haven't even hit puberty but have seen porn on their tablets.

It should be the responsibility of the parents to restrict the internet access of their children accordingly. We have programs especially for that since over a decade. I'm pretty sure appropriate apps also exist. Blocking the content for every citizen because some parents can't be bothered to show any interest in what their kids are doing on the internet is just sad.

Good luck with that. Will totally stop the young'uns from accessing porn, and keep people in general away from rape and pedophilia. Yup.

I wonder if they realise this will just lead to increasing agression levels?

lol... i feel sorry for the english.

Well the UK is related to the US, we just kicked them out and stopped paying taxes. Sooner or later we'll block deh pornz 2. We still have better teeth though. :)

Nah, the U.S. has lobbyists who will prevent such a thing.

@OP Seems like most of the "West" is in need for self-government.

The lobbyists are the ones taking our rights away. They aren't majorly out for us, but rather the corporate interest.

Perfect opportunity to conduct a study about the impact of masturbating on the general level of aggression lol

Hide all the harmful things, eh? How about giving parents guidance first so they could give some to children? Or maybe give children guidance at school? Kids will get guidance if there's willpower to do it. Hiding everything harmful isn't "stepping in", it's avoiding the problem. It's also exaggerating the problem because like I said, kids aren't made of glass. And then there's the thing: How do you think we're going to have mature adults when kids learn the world is a perfect place, nothing is wrong, and they never learn to cope with harder things. If anything, we'll end up with helpless adults if we overprotect our children.

I'm not saying violence and porn are fine for kids. I'm saying they'll learn to cope with it. They just need guidance and a proper amount of protection, that's all. If they don't get those two, they probably have bigger issues than seeing porn.

Again, the fundamental problem is that you think you can depend on the parents.

In that case, the fundamental problem isn't porn, it's bad parents. As far as I know, people used to be able to parent their children. Now, not so much, it feels. Maybe instead figure out what's wrong with parents? Don't you find it a bigger problem than porn?

Just proves that NSA (US agency) isn't the only one/gov't entity watching everything you do on the net.

World is slowly becoming more and more draconian every day.

What actually is child porn, if teens count towards this i guess im going to jail.

Under 18.

If I take a picture of my dick, can I go to jail?

Only if you post it online.

At least I remember stories about 14-year old girls who were accused for producing and spreading child pornography - they took pictures of themselves naked and sent those to guys. The guys were accused for owning child pornography.

False.

If you are under 18 and take a nude picture of yourself, you have just commited child pornography and could go to jail.

There are many example of this where some teen takes a pic and shares or not but ALL parties get in trouble and go to jail.

I am sure this will put a lot of parents at ease. If you want to watch porn you can just deactivate this parental lock thing.

I do not see the issue here. Its a good thing.

why is this good ? I want my kid to watch porn and it is actually healthy for a young person .. i swear people are getting dumber and dumber that is restrictions make them dumber.

If you want them to watch, more power to you--just call in and ask them to remove the filter. However, you must respect that it should be up to the parents if their kids watch this content, and it is a good thing to provide them with the tools to block it by default.

I don't even have kids yet, but I'd love it if they introduced something like this in Canada.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

This is the only problem and solution.

Gov't should not ever censor anything. They are not responsible for parenting and giving up that right is just asking to lose all rights to your lives.

Parents need to be responsible for their children and as such make their own filter options.

Win7+ makes this freaking simple as pie. All my kid's accounts are censored by me, as their parent, I block that ish and montior what they do. They also know their boundaries and recently even had youtube unblocked because they have proven they will use it for appropriate material.
