I've tried, but it never works out for me. But that could be because I kind of suck at Mario Kart. (At times.)

Ask Rol and Moreno...

Ah so it was the mushroom! Yeah it is a very rare situation to be in as you can't get Mushrooms while in first place (or atleast it's extremely rare). Do you know what time exactly you're to use the mushroom?

I'm still pulling blue shell fragments out of my anus from years of MKWii, but I've dodged a fair number of them. When it catches up to you and hovers over you for a sec, you'll notice that it does a short "windup" or "cockback" before rushing down and pwn!ng you. When you see that animation, you use your mushroom then.

Edit: ninja'd by ganoncrotch, who offered a better explanation.

you just have to wait for it to actually appear above your head, then the instant it stops going forward it does a lil 360 loop in the air and slams down, the instant this loop animation starts the shells impact point is picked so boost to avoid it, not before tho, or it will just follow you boosting then hammer you into the ground.

Ah I see I see. Thanks for the tip! I wish there was a good way to practice this, but getting a mushroom and being in first place when a blue shell shows up is not easily set up, even in single player. Guess the next time this situation comes up, I'll just have to hope I get it right lol. Either that, or just save the mushroom until after the blue shell hits so I can instantly get back up.

yeah...I've done it, welcome to the ELITE CLASS :p

I like to think I was already elite class lol.

I never managed to pull this off in MKWii, but I did in MK7.

Hehe, now it's the same here. It's probably because I play MK7 way more than I ever did MKWii. Speaking of which, since you have MK7, perhaps you'd be interested in joining Tbone51's MK7 tournament. It's hard for me to post a link a from my 3DS, but the thread should still be on the first page of Nintendo discussion. Don't be afraid to join in on the fun! ^_^

I avoid them all the time in every game with a blue shell, minus Wii.

its easiest in Mario Kart DD imo

in double dash you were able to dodge it 1 or 2 ways. But my memory's a little hazy, it's been a while. I think if it was at a certain distance while chasing you you could get it to take itself out on walls of the track, and i think there was another way that involved some kind of super sharp turn on a straight away. The 1st method i think worked (in the proper situation) about 50% of the time, and the 2nd worked about 1in8 at would put you in last in a close race anyway even if you pulled it off.

Stop downplaying my achievement! D: And yeah as CarcharodonKraz said, it was much more doable in DD as you didn't need any items.

Done it once myself, and only once! I didn't have a mushroom though, so I'm not sure how I managed it. When someone said boosters earlier, were they referring to the little boosts you get after drifting? If so, I think that was it. I remember taking a really hard turn in Rainbow Road when one was about to hit me and boosting slightly. Guessing that's how I managed? Argh, been too long since I've been able to play!

Hmm

Never managed to do it.
