Preferred the SEGA Megadrive to the Super Nintendo Entertianment System. (SEGA did exceptionally well in europe in the early 90's, so it was nowhere near as one sided as some other areas)

I had (and still have) an immense amount of respect for Nintendo though, and did not begrudge or belittle anyone who had either system.

That all changed of course when a certain "moneybags corporation" wriggled their way in to the gaming business.

$ony?

Indeed..!!!!

because people are afraid their console of choice will lose

How do people remember the Playstation 1 vs. the ... whatever Nintendo had at the time. The N64?

I remember thinking the name "Playstation" was lame. I remember thinking that Nintendo would slay the upstart and good riddance. I remember pouting a little that Sony didn't seem to be wilting. I remember feeling a bit anxious and insecure about Nintendo's position at the top. I remember seeing the Final Fantasy 7 commercial on a friend's television and, in that moment, sending up a new flag.

That one is weird for me personally. Most of my gaming friends and I loved multiplayer so I saw a lot of N64s but the media made it seem like the PS1 was kicking its but thanks to FFVII and MGS. There were friends that had the Playstation and we'd play those game but mostly everyone was geeking over Goldeneye 007, Ocarina of Time for a little bit, Tony Hawk (which I didn't get), sports games and the latest Wrestling game on the N64.

The Playstation didn't pop off until the PS2 and even then most of my folk (outside the Fighting game fans and  RPG heads ) moved from the N64 to the Xbox due to Halo.

you do realize the PS1 sold almost 70 million more than the N64 right? as much as i do love the n64 (more than the PS1) there is no denying that the PS1 slaughtered it in terms of sales

I'll stick with "wriggle" thankyou very much.

Sony looked down upon gaming prior to Ken Kuturagi slithering his way back to them with all the software and hardware ideas he stole from Nintendo.

The man is a FRAUD, simple as that, just like sony in general. (who have themselves not created anything meaningful since the damn walkman in the 80's)

I don't remember Nintendo vs. Sega fondly at all. I had to kick a lot of Sega fan ass on the playground. It was a dirty job, but I believed in the mission. But in the end what was it all for? For Nintendo to sell us all out and make the fucking Wii?

Sometimes at night, I can still hear the screams...

Console war is hell.

lol, what's wrong with the Wii? XD

with titles like Xenoblade, Last Story, etc. + GC Backward compatabillity + Virtual Console, add some emulators like Genisis and PSX, and the console was gaming heaven, the Wii is my favorite console of all time!

....

....

oh boy, Incoming Wii Hater Force XD

Stories have surfaced recently that sony even tried to jump in to bed with SEGA......... as i said, they wanted a slice of the pie with the minimal amount of effort required.

I always have and always will view them as a corporation who want something for nothing.

Buy buy buy, and screw those who get trod on.

some guy on this site had a signature asking why doesn't anybody use the dollar sign for "$ony" like they do with M$, then saying that he remembered Sony don't have any money so it wouldn't fit XD

We were talking about back in the mid-90's when Sony actually had money, and Nintendo and SEGA were busy duking it out when Sony swooped in under the radar and capitalized on the opening left by Nintendo and SEGA's mistakes.

Today, my sig (which was originally stated by another member on here) holds very true, and it's both funny and ironic watching Sony fans attack Microsoft for being a greedy evil corporation that has tons of money to blow on their game console when Sony was doing just that from the late 90s on through most of the '00s.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

@ NightDragon93.

The quote "trees" are getting a little big, so gonna reply here......

Yup, sony much like Microsoft had literally nothing when it came to first party games when they first entered the business, it was sonys wallets that made them what they are today (whatever that is).

And yet some folk who worship the ground "the frauds" walk on go out of their way to knock microsoft at every oppertunity they get.
