Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are the new console wars viewed with such negativity?

When people talk about SEGA vs. Nintendo we always seem to remember it fondly but with Sony vs. MS so many people act like it's just stupid.  So do we like console wars or not?

Well, as far as I know there is no way to be nostalgic about the present.

A lot of people grew up playing SNES/Genesis, so there's your answer.

Kids fighting over which toy is better.

Who remembers SNES vs Genesis fondly? That was a brutal battle, too!

Well first of... it was Sega Vs. Nintendo.. then it became Sony Vs. Nintendo... now it's Sony Vs. Microsoft Vs. Nintendo...  (That's right Nintendo is still battling for your gaming dollar..)

Secondly.. Internet ruined it really... now it's no longer Catfights (In my case) and Mano a Mano.. it's a bunch of people hiding behind their computers trash talking.. .. it takes the fun out of it...

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Part of it deals with the fact that most of those that were actually in the previous Nintendo vs Sega conflict are older, more mature and likely have dropped all the fanboy nonsense in the past. Young folk that grew up with the PS2 vs Xbox vs GC are still babies in a sense and have yet to leave the competition BS behind.

This upcoming console war has the stigmas of Nintendo dropping a less then respectable entry and the biggest difference between Sony and Microsoft (outside of known exclusives) being the Xbox One may or may not having a lot of restrictions on how you own the game.

As an older gamer, the simplicity that was once a hall mark of console gaming is disappearing in subscription fees, DLC and other nonsense.  Plus with life getting more complicated on its own, all this crap does me no good, I just have to hope and make sure my dollars are going toward the right games.

Its only a problem when participant's dont know when or even how to step out of it. There are a few members on this site, 1 specifically, where everything is console war to him.

I don't remember Nintendo vs. Sega fondly at all. I had to kick a lot of Sega fan ass on the playground. It was a dirty job, but I believed in the mission. But in the end what was it all for? For Nintendo to sell us all out and make the fucking Wii?

Sometimes at night, I can still hear the screams...

Console war is hell.

I'm sure at the time, Nintendo VS Sega was viewed as stupid by people other than fanboys. Now it's just nostalgia speaking.

In 20 years time people will also think back to how cataclysmic and epic the battle between Sony and Microsoft was.

So yeah, nostalgia is your answer.

If everyone was rich like me they wouldn't have to worry about fanboyism. I'm rich bitch, and I'm buying everything!

It's just that simple.
