I'm an huge fan of Tekken since 2. Even now I recognise the cleverness of Tekken 4 (the bridge game that allowed them more freedom with their style). My favourite of the series is easily Tekken 5 (or the later DR version). While Tekken 3 was great for it's time, Tekken 5 is in my view the pinnacle of the series. Sadly things have been lost with Tekken 6 and Tag 2. 6 is good, however I feel very unbalanced. The bound and juggling mechanic was a bad step for the series, and they made Lars for this mechanic, giving him an advantage over other characters, in my opinion, him and other characters that have easy to perform/confusing 'lifts' gain an advantage. I much prefer to play the traditional way, where you just try and beat the crap out of the other person, even if it means kicking them when they are down or trying to get up. Tag 2 is a spammers heaven, a mess of a game. I'm on the ground, get kicked and suddenly bounce up randomly and they are doing a new tag combo? I mean what the hell. On to other series, I've not got many from this generation. I don't feel they are a good and varied as they used to be. Not got into Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive. Late 90s was the fighters time. Star Gladiator is a fantastic game, wish they made more and carried on the series (Not played the DC sequal). X-men Mutant Academy 2 - a great game, far better than the first, I've played SF EX2 Plus and it's better than that I'd say. Marvel Super Heroes - loved this one of the Capcom 2D fighters.

A very fine list indeed. As you rightly pointed out Tekken is a great series, and in my view Tekken 5 is BY FAR the best one in the series. I’m not suggesting the others were poor or anything, but that’s just a testament to the awesomeness that is Tekken 5. Tekken 3 was the best PS1 version and I liked Tag because it tried to do something new and succeeded. Tekken 6 was a letdown – for various reasons. It was not bad game – just a disappointment. I have not tried TTT 2 yet. I am about to order it now that it is cheap. I’ve had too many games to keep up with so I decided to wait on that one a bit.
I liked Soul Blade on the PS1, loved Soul Caliber on the Dreamcast and I was completely taken by SC2 on the Gamecube (PS2 to an extent). After I started losing interest in the series. SC3 was the last one I took seriously. SC4 and 5 not so much.
I liked DOA3. Didn’t bother with 4 much and I intend to get 5. It felt like a button mashers paradise. Didn’t like that aspect of it much.
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and Xmen Vs Street Figher were my favorites. Xmen Children of the Atom was not bad for its time too. Capcom had a wealth of great 2D fighters in the 90s and early 2000s.
Oh and Blood Roar!!! LOVED that series. BR2 and BR3 were my favorites. After that I went downhill. Primal Fury on the GameCube was an enhanced version of BR3 (which wasn’t bad) and then Extreme was an enhanced version of that. BR4 was just awful and was mostly an enhanced version of the previous games lol Hudson became very lazy it seems. BR2 is easily my favorite in the series when they introduced Shenlong.
