Forums - Gaming Discussion - Built in PVR will be a nightmare

In fact.....it may be the worst thing about next gen consoles.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching some good gameplay on YouTube now and again, or the occasional guide/walkthrough for one thing or another. Certainly I've considered recording some of my own gameplay as well over the years. However, if everyone can do it, it will open some seriously large flood gates.

I got this guy on my XBL friend's list. Great guy. Very mature. Very friendly. Good gamer. He bought himself his own HD PVR about half a year ago. His videos (and commentary) are awful. He releases about 20 videos a week and sends messages about each of them to all his friends.

Now I imagine this....but with everyone. Everyone starts recording and releasing vids non stop. Friends are constantly notified automatically about every new recording. There's zero entry barrier. Everybody can get in on the action, without any difficulty.

It's going to be bad. REALLY BAD.

Maybe it's just me, but I think I'm gonna have to end up blocking notifications from like 90% of my friends. People I like. Don't even get me started on what YouTube is gonna look like.

Yeah. Not everyone needs to show off gameplay. I agree. When I go to youtube for help, I look for the video of the guy who actually knows what he's doing. Now, that guy is gonna be buried amongst rank amateurs.

I won't mind, I think it will be quite interesting to see.

The only reason that worries me is that it's gonna take a big infrastructure to house all those HD videos and stream them to other people. Ignoring is easy, storing what's mostly crap isn't.

I like the feature on Xbox1 where you can stream straight to twitch tv. That would be very useful tool for livestreamers

Maybe they should put up a pay-wall so it makes less people feel inclined to use the features/services. Something like $3-$5 a month. I don't know I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Has MS said how far back you can record? I hope they allow for long recording sessions. I would love to be able to record full Madden games or entire races. Sony released a "20 things about PS4" video a couple days ago and it says you can only record the "last few minutes". Waste of time.

i think day 1 everyone is going to post something just to try it out but down the line i think most people will use a reasonable amount of discretion.

i mean, i've had to "unsubscribe" from maybe 3 people on facebook due to spamming which isn't bad really. i assume the next gen OSs will have some settings to sort of customize the things you want to see/hear so in general i think you are wrong.

..but yeah, everyone will have a "that guy" on their friends list.

I'm sure there will be options to turn off updates from friends. And if there aren't, you can always block or delete that person.

No big deal.
