Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are Pikmin 3 FW sales proof enough for you that the Wii U is not doomed?

That's pretty damned doomed.

It still isnt enough, but things will get better as more exclusives release.

I'm gonna be honest. Looking at next year's line-up the Wii U seems like a more atractive purchase than a PS4 (not even gonna bother mentioning Xbox one cause thats completely ruled out). This cause i dont see FFXV beeing released on the first year in the west and KH3 will take even longer.

So, as far as im concerned i do see a rosy future for the Wii U for this holiday and next year. After that we shall see. A price cut will definitly help this fall.

I don´t know man, I think the WiiU is a bad deal in comparition with the PS4, here in Brazil, at least. Here a external Hard Drive with power suply cost a lot of money, like at least 150 dollars for a 500GB HD. That said, a WiiU would cost, here, around 350+150 = 500 (plus taxes, which are 60%). The PS4 is 400 dollars (plus 60% taxes) with a lot more to offer, like: - way more power (bigger, prettier and better games), built in HD, which is very convenient, the free psn plus games (which are usually amazing) and a bluray drive.

The WiiU will do fine, but, a better option? I don´t see it. To Nintendo fans? Of course, no doubt about it, but to the general public, I really don´t think so.

no "way more power". and better games? seriously?

Isn´t? I am not a tech guy, that is for sure, but, in my opinion the PS4 IS more powerful, way more, am I wrong?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

more powerful? absolutely? way more powerful? nope. and i've yet to see someone playing power instead of games so that's certainly not a buying factor.

It doesn't prove anything, really. 22k is still really low and its unlikely to maintain even that level of sales. The game itself is also unlikely to have legs as it isn't a very popular IP and the install base is too low to support it.

We've seen it with Vita. It gets a semi-big game once in a while and it gets a nice boost only to drop back down to "normal" a few weeks later. What's the next biggest Wii U release that can actually make any sort of difference?

There's a whole heap of them on the may mate - The Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Wii U Party, Donkey Kong, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U and a couple of so far unannounced titles that Nintendo are keeping under wraps to stop Sony and Microsoft ripping off their ideas.

There's a steady release schedule between now and the new year with the likes of SMT x Fire Emblem, X, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. coming next year...plus probably one or two surprises to be announced at next year's E3.

The release schedule is looking pretty healthy at the moment, and third parties will jump on board early next year at the latest. You might even see the One being in a similar position that the PS3 was in early on with projects being canned or moved to the Wii U like Monster Hunter was for the Wii.

Both Sony and Microsoft are going to struggle to close the gap that the Wii U's 1 year head start has given it despite the poor sales from January to February and April to the present day...both consoles are going to be supply constrained and go through their own inevitable software droughts.

Well, the Vita isn't doing poorly in Japan. It's been able to sell software at good levels and there's been plenty of surprising successes (hence, all of the Japanese 3rd party support it's getting).

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

It's more optimistic than before, but I still think that others will want more proof. I haven't got one yet, and won't get one until after I get my PS4.

Doing 100k on an install base of 1m is pretty impressive me thinks. Wii U with only 20k isn't all that great though, but I guess it's much better than before. The main problem is will it hold at 20k week by week? Unfortunately I think it'll drop again until the next release, but sales should even out higher than before after each new release.

The first Pikmin managed 101k on a 242k install base.  366k by the week the Gamecube hit one million.

To be honest, I can't agree with any of those statements. It's seen small bumps in hardware sales after the release of 'major' titles (Soul Sacrifice, that other Monster Hunter clone whose name escapes me right now), but its hardware sales are generally anemic, and its software sales are none too impressive either. Even its heaviest hitters merely do Pretty Good. And I can't name any other major projects in the pipeline at the moment.

I never thought the system was "doomed" (although not sure what metrics are used to constitute that...)

Nintendo has enough resources and valued IPs to manage at least a solid and profitable console. I think the real litmus test will be 2014 and if it will be a Gamecube level console or can find its break out success to possibly repeat as bets selling console for this generation.
