Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Getting Free Exclusives For Doing Nothing?

considering the easy porting next gen.
I think we will see more of these games on xb1 too

Its well known Sony has some of the greatest exclusives, but some of my favorite exclusives on the PS3 come from Japan.  Since the 360 is basically dead in Japan Sony is basically getting a bunch of free exclusives because the developers have no reason to port the game over to the 360.  I'm not talking about games developed in Japan that are focused on Western gamers, like MGS, I'm talking about real Japanese games like Tales of Xillia and Ni No Kuni.  A huge portion of the PS3's exclusives don't actually come from first party studios, they come from Japanese developers where basically the PS3 is the only option for them.  So if Microsoft fails in Japan again with the X1 then Sony will once again get a bunch of free exclusives for the PS4, when Japanese developers stop developing for the PS3 and move on to the PS4, for doing nothing.  Just wanted to get this out, so what do you guys think?

Well...they can only meet demand where the games are meant to gain demand. If the games are meant for the western audience like Capcom titles and MGS then they will be on both consoles. If they are made for the Japanese culture they will more than likely stay exclusive. If the 360 had a larger marketshare in Japan they would've had more games, but because the Japanese do not see the 360 as a console of interest because it essentially does the same thing as the PS3, the home brand is obviously the one of choice. Look what happened when the 360 version of FFXIII was announced. Japan blew up because they they were saying  it was pointless to spend so much money on a port that wouldn't be supported. The 360 version of FFXIII didn't sell well in the end even with the million plus 360's sold.

even if JP games go multiplatform, I believe it'll sell more on PS4 because its cheaper.

We also have tales of xillia 2 coming out exclusively for ps3, and maybe even persona 5.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

Big reason why I prefer PS3 and am finding 2013 to be a banner year is great Japanese exclusives for my tastes. I have confidence this will continue on with the PS4.

If you are a JRPG fan then PS3 is the best choice actually.

No, they always had 3 options.

Sony will always get those games as "exclusives". There is nothing MS can do, however I don't think any person interested in Japanese games buys a 360.

Only the ones who thought the first couple years of the 360's life were going to continue for the rest of the generation as far as Japanese support goes.  Was pretty damn close to doing that myself for a while.  Probably would've if I had an easy place to put the 360.

...

And I'm sure all the Xbots are crying out that it's all 100% Japan's fault for Microsoft's epic failure over there. Sod those Japanese gamers for not wanting to play the same mindless CoD and Battlefield every year. How dare they prefer quality and diversity over absolute repetition from a product that completely designed for an audience halfway around the world. For shame Japan, for shame!

PS4 already has Japan right off the bat, seeing as there already Japanese oriented titles slated for release and M$ has pretty much flat out said they've abandoned the Japanese market. If and when PS4 takes NA (seems very likely at this point), then it will be total domination for the system. Wii-U isn't even a competition, even over in Japan.

Au contraire.

If you're all about the more niche Japanese games, such as visual novels and bullet hell games, you're pretty much obliged to own one. Those barely get localized, though. In fact, I can't name a single visual novel for the 360 that got localized (SHMUPs have had it easier).

That statement is a bit more truthful now than it was in 2007-8, though, years when MS was trying to crack Japan.
